The relevance of VO2max as an indicator of endurance capacity has long been questioned and current research shows that elite road cyclists often have lower VO2max scores VS their high level, non-elite cyclists.

WHY?

Elite cyclists have a far superior economy of movement.

Bottom line: It is not really about what you have - but more about what you do with it.
