Developing Coaches | Inspiring Players
With over 100 coaches registered across two workshops held in August, Burnaby FC introduced the new BFC Technical DNA Framework through classroom learning and on field practical sessions.
Coaches explored what quality coaching looks and feels like, with a strong focus on creating the right learning environment through game-based practice and purposeful session design. By building sessions that are game realistic, highly active, and target 75% or more ball rolling time, coaches can give players more opportunities to make decisions, solve real game problems, and experience learning that transfers more effectively into the match.
To support this, we also introduced a coach development competency rubric to help coaches better understand their strengths, identify areas for development, and provide a clearer structure for ongoing growth. The framework encourages coaches to try it, reflect, and seek feedback, with BFC staff providing the guidance and support needed during the season to turn reflection into meaningful development. We encourage every BFC coach to pursue formal certification and take advantage of our in-club coach education opportunities throughout the season.
“Coach development plays a key role in supporting player development” said Rob Csabai, Head of Coaching, “and when coaches continue to learn, reflect, and create the right learning environments, they help players thrive and strengthen our club”.
