WAKO USA has been a tremendous supporter of the North American Century Cup since its inception. At the inaugural event, Team USA brought athletes from California, Minnesota, Utah, Illinois, Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, Ohio, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Oregon, and beyond.

The tournament featured some of the top athletes in the United States, creating countless exciting matchups between Canadian and American competitors. Team USA captured the men’s point fighting division led by El Java, while Canada won the women’s division led by Samuel Gagnon.

In the ring disciplines, many Team USA athletes who later competed at the WAKO World Championships in Abu Dhabi earned podium finishes, including Meryl Swidler, Mekenna Vanyo, Destiny Taylor, Javier Huerta, James Whitaker, and Montaine McFarland.

Some of the toughest fighters in the competition came from Hawaii. Combat Sports Hawaii brought athletes in both the junior and senior divisions, competing with exceptional heart, skill, and determination while proudly representing their state on the international stage.

Interest from the United States has already been overwhelming for the 2nd North American Century Cup, returning to the PANAM Centre in Markham.

🥊 Early Bird registration closes June 29.

WAKO Canada has a proud and longstanding history of participation from provinces and territories across the country. Newfoundland and Labrador, affectionately known as “The Rock,” has been an important part of that journey since joining our organization during its early years as the Council of Amateur Sport Kickboxing (CASK).

Newfoundland and Labrador did not simply join the organization—they embraced the spirit of competition and excellence that defines our sport. The province has consistently produced dedicated athletes, coaches, and officials who have contributed significantly to the growth and success of kickboxing in Canada.

At nearly every international event, a strong contingent of athletes from “The Rock” can be found proudly representing their province and country. These athletes do more than participate—they win medals, earn international recognition, and establish themselves among the world’s elite competitors.
Newfoundland and Labrador continues to strengthen its presence within WAKO Canada through the addition of new clubs and the development of high-performance athletes. One notable example is Rogue Martial Arts Academy. In only its second National Championship appearance, the club delivered outstanding performances. Co-owner Ben Crane captured a National Title in a highly competitive Senior Male division. Patrick O’Rielly, the other half of the Rogue leadership team, has also played a pivotal role in the club’s success through his extensive coaching and athlete development responsibilities.
Rogue Martial Arts Academy takes pride in modernizing the martial arts experience by combining disciplines such as Taekwondo, Jiu-Jitsu, Grappling, and Kickboxing under one roof. At the same time, the club remains committed to preserving the traditions and values that make each martial art unique and meaningful.

We are excited to see our newest NL club continue to grow and represent the rich history of eastern Canada within WAKO Canada.

Summer Smash is Almost Here!

WAKO Canada has always been a leader in competitive sport. We recognized that stepping into the ring for the first time can be intimidating. For many athletes, the leap from training in the gym to competing on the mats—or even in the ring at major events like Nationals—can feel overwhelming.

That is why WAKO Canada became the first organization to create a dedicated Development Tournament Series—a pathway designed to help athletes build confidence, gain experience, and fall in love with competition in a safe and supportive environment.

Our focus was simple: learning, growth, and fun.
By reducing contact levels to just 30% (very light touch contact), participants can experience the excitement of competition without the fear of getting hurt or feeling overwhelmed. The response from clubs across Ontario has exceeded all expectations.

Events such as Frosty Friends, Summer Smash, and Halloween Howl have become staples of the martial arts community, attracting athletes from kickboxing, Muay Thai, and other combat sports who are eager to develop their skills and confidence.

The next event - the Summer Smash is just around the corner!
175 registrations already confirmed from 19 clubs
Only 25 spots remain
Participation is capped at 200 athletes

If you have been thinking about taking your first step into competition, or your goal is to challenge yourself and begin your journey toward larger events, Summer Smash provides the perfect environment to grow.

Don’t wait—once the remaining spots are filled, registration will close.

Registration Deadline: June 21

National Team Camp

WAKO Canada has always placed priority on our younger athletes and 2026 has been the year of youth!  The 2026 Ontario Winter Games featured 110 young participants aged 11-19 that had an incredible experience in both camps and at the Orillia Resort for the multisport games.

2026 will also feature the WAKO World Junior Championship. 79 athletes have been selected to represent Canada coming from across the country.

From Forms performers to K1 fighters - Team Canada is on fire!
To best prepare our athletes WAKO Canada is hosting training camps across Canada. There are 3 camps scheduled in Ontario for Ring, Kick Light and Forms/Weapons disciplines; and 3 camps are scheduled in Quebec for Point.  The camps are all listed on the WAKO Canada website under evens.
Attending camps are important requirements for NT athletes, but are also open to young athletes wanting to improve their skills; learn from NT coaches; and also work with peers that are dedicated to reaching the world championship podium.
These camps are amazing for team building; learning new tactical skills; and also infusing sport psychology into preparation programs.

The next camp is scheduled for June 14.  The registration link is below:
