White Hand Lacrosse Lacrosse History "The Creator's Game" This page is here to keep the traditions of the "Greatest Game in the World" alive.

Learn about traditional sticks, ask about getting old sticks re-strung, and brought back to life.

This is an 80’s Etienne-Martin that was truly a beast of a stick. Very thick carve, but also a perfect balance stick. It is rare that you find a stick that will sit perfectly in an open hand. It finally found a new home with Jason Jacoby in Virginia. Jason has become a good friend, and he asked if I had any other bootlace colours than the traditional orange. I did and the grey bootlace Etienne was born.

Happy Wood Stick Wednesday!🥍 This post truly fills me with happiness! A awhile back I was contacted about a “Martin’s Special” by a family member of master Stickmaker Herb Martin. Lisa VanEvery who is the great granddaughter of Herb Martin asked if I had one of his sticks and if she could acquire it from me. I sent he a picture of the unrestored stick, and she immediately said she would like it. I ended up working on it for her and did a restoration to preserve as originally as it was.

Herb started making sticks around 1925, and is credited as one of the first stick makers to bend and carve a narrower round top stick that became the standard for box lacrosse for decades. Herb’s sticks supplied stick for west coast lacrosse, teams like the New Westminster Salmonbellies and they exclusively ordered and played with his sticks. His craftsmanship was revered by many. So much so that his name became part of another great stickmaker’s history. Matthew Etienne paid tribute to Herb Martin by making his premier sticks with the name Etienne Martin stamped on them! I will follow up with a bit more history in a future post.

I can’t tell you how happy I was to get this stick done for Lisa, and have her reunited with a piece of her family history. I know Lisa will cherish it and use it to teach each other’s the power of the Creators Game, and what her great grandfather meant to the history of lacrosse!

Always nice to get stick that is getting passed along to the next generation. This Patterson was in need of just a little
TLC. (Technical Lacrosse Care)😉🥍
A latter Patterson pattern 7. It has the more modern wood burnt stamp. I will go into more detail on that in a future post.

Going to break this post into three. I got a couple from Michael Anderson a while back. Both were Mohawk sticks. One field long pole and the other a box stick. Both had good age to them. Nothing l love more than to see the smile on someone’s face when they get back a stick and see the results! Enjoy Michael!!!

Inspired by Jim Hill’s Etienne restoration last night I thought I would post an older restoration of my first Powless stick I got back on 2009. I played hard with this stick, and it was truly a perfect stick when I got it. Still strung as it originally came it was one like no other Powless with how it was carved! Had to preserve that, and honor it with a piece of Purple Heart Roth re repair!

Here is another Etienne. This time a Pro-All-Star. Done for a local friend. Truly enjoy when I can work on sticks by some of the greatest stick makers of all time! Matthew Etienne was one of a kind! Truly happy that his legacy is carried on with the Mitchell Brothers and Mohawk lacrosse. They acquired part of Matthew’s shop and tooling, that goes into their sticks today!

Part of my love for wooden sticks comes from the community of people I connect with everyday. I don’t know how to say no to anyone who requests a restoration of an old family stick or a stick that is a tribute to honor a loved one, or friend. That being said there are times I put my own sticks on the back burner. I have been playing with my Mitchell Brothers Mohawk for a number of years now. I wasn’t truly happy with how it was throwing, but I just settled to adjust it week to week. I finally broke down and restrung it. Anyone who knows me understands that I cherish playing with my wood sticks. It’s what truly gives my the passion to inspire others. I can honestly say when I need to pick myself up at any point the “Spirit in the stick” truly gives me strength. I have loved ones in my life that are truly my foundation. They are represented on the wood burning on my stick that tell part of my story with the Creator’s game. Family, friends, and community drive me on and give me strength! I truly appreciate all that it gives to me. With all that being said here is my restring and wood repair ready to hit the floor!
