What a busy yet great weekend we had! It started off on Saturday presenting one of my students with his Black Belt. He completed his testing process last month and Saturday was the big presentation day. I love awarding new belts to my students. Every belt here is earned and I can tell you that he absolutely earned his Black Belt. Saturday was a great display of the skill he has been developing not just through his test testing process but throughout his five years here at the dojo. I couldn’t be more proud of him.
Sunday was seminar day. came to the dojo to take us through a competition level traditional bo kata. She did an amazing job and I know I speak for everyone when I say we all enjoyed ourselves and got a lot out of it. This was her very first seminar. I love giving new talent that opportunity to shine and she really did shine in her first outing. Already looking forward to having her come to work with us again. A big thanks to our friends .heart.fma for joining us at the seminar.

So as many of you know we are in the process of running our fundraising raffle for the local WKC Canadian national team members who have qualified to go to Spain to represent not only Nixon‘s Martial Arts but more importantly,  Canada at the world championships in October. It’s an exciting time for the people who are going but to be honest it’s also a stressful time. As we are all working to get ready to represent Canada the reality is we are not sponsored or supported by anybody other than the kind people who opt to buy one of our raffle tickets. For pretty much everyone who’s going flights have already been paid for, the venue hotel is already booked and money is being put aside for the tournament fees themselves. If you’re looking to offer your support and grab some tickets they are $10 each, three for $20 or seven for $40. The grand prize is an awesome gift bag of gift cards worth $1500. Cineplex Odeon, the LCBO, the beer store, Home Depot, Starbucks, Tim Hortons, the keg, Kelsey’s and Montana’s, and many many more are all in there for the taking. We’re also doing second and third prizes with Visa gift cards. This is a great raffle and it’s going to help some people in a big way represent the Canada and make a dream come true. Big news! Members from Nixon’s Martial Arts have qualified for the WKC Canadian National Team and will be heading to Cádiz, Spain for the World Championships this October representing Canada! I can’t believe it’s taken me until today to get this post out from the weekend. It’s been a busy couple days folks. What a great Sunday we had. It was a divide and conquer sort of day. I was in Ancaster .heart.fma for their Spar Wars Shiai. It was a great day with some great and friendly competition. At the dojo we we’re hosting our friends from and Thompson Martial Arts for what I’m told was an excellent session all around. I love it when dojo‘s work together for the betterment of all. Congratulations to everybody this weekend on representing the very best of the Martial Arts.

Back from the WKC Canadian national team tryout in Ottawa this weekend. It was a great weekend and a great event. A big congratulations to the tournament promoters for running a great event and congratulations to all the competitors not just from this dojo and our friends .heart.fma but to all competitors on their performances this past weekend. Day two was another great day for everyone involved. Sadly I did not get pictures of Kevin and Ethan fighting but I will do my best to rectify that tomorrow. A huge shout out to our very own Tyler for his very first appearance at a Canadian national team tryout. He did an amazing job on his first day and he’s on around two tomorrow. Mr. Sbrissa made his 700 appearance at a team tryout and as always he absolutely delivered. Everybody is moving into round two in their respective divisions and all are in medal contention. A huge shout out to our friends .heart.fma Martial Arts for their amazing performances today. All are moving forward and strong positions to make team Canada. Stay tuned for more details tomorrow

It was a great first day here at the WKC Canadian National Team tryouts here in our nation’s capital. Medals galore for the first day. Congrats to everyone from Team NMA and everyone from .heart.fma for their great performances today. I couldn’t be more proud of this group. Tomorrow is a big day so stay tuned.
