Here are a few photos celebrating the recent successes of some outstanding local junior curlers. You may recognize many of these young athletes from their early days coming up through the Brighton & District Curling Club (BDCC) junior program. Today, many of them are not only representing our club but also curling for various teams across the local high school circuit.
The Brighton & District Curling Club has a long history of supporting junior curlers from East Northumberland Secondary School (ENSS). This year, ENSS was able to send both the boys and girls teams to the Bay of Quinte Championships, held last week at the Stirling Curling Club .
At the club level, a team featuring Brighton junior curlers Oliver and Rowan came away from the bonspiel as club champions.
The ENSS girls team, led by long-time Brighton junior Carris Hennessy, captured the Bay of Quinte Championship. Carris and her teammates Morgan and Lauren and competed yesterday at the COSSA championships at the Peterbourgh Golf and Country club and were very competitive
Alexander Botting, who formed a team with his cross-country teammates from the high school, also had a strong and enjoyable season. While they narrowly missed advancing to the COSSA Championships in Peterborough, the team played hard and represented their school well.
Last year’s recipient of the Nancy Shepherd Award for Most Promising Junior Curler, Kayden Hope from Nicholson Catholic College in Belleville, has had an incredible run. After winning the Bay of Quinte Championship, Kayden’s team went 3–0 yesterday at the COSSA High School Curling Championships, capturing the title at the Peterborough Golf and Country Club.
In two weeks, Kayden and his teammates will travel to Thunder Bay to compete in the Provincial High School Curling Championships at the Fort William Curling Club. Soft-spoken and humble, Kayden finished the day with a big smile, a very large trophy, and an exciting opportunity to represent not only his high school but also the Brighton & District Curling Club on the provincial stage.
If you see Kayden or any of these fantastic young athletes around the club over the next few weeks, please take a moment to congratulate them and let them know just how proud we are of their accomplishments.
And of course, none of this would be possible without the unwavering support of ENSS coach Suzanne Dormboss, who selflessly volunteers countless hours to give these students the opportunity to curl, develop their skills, and leave every practice and game knowing their potential is truly unlimited — as long as they’re willing to work hard and have fun along the way.
Well done to all of our junior curlers!
