Hello! My name is Kalyn Steranko. I am the founder and head trainer of Amped Advantage. And I feel like an introduction is overdue.
As we head into the grand opening weekend of our second gym so close to my hometown I feel it’s important for you to know who I am and why we are here.
Amped Advantage was established August 16th, 2017 in Calgary, Alberta by me👋 and my now husband Devin Holmes-Smith
Since then, our time, blood, sweat, and tears - along with a ton of help from family, friends, and neighbours have helped raise Amped into what it is today.
My journey into fitness began at a young age in sports in Ennismore, Ontario. Mostly hockey, baseball, and rugby. I was fast, strong, and also bigger than most of the other girls. Which helped in a lot of “non-contact” female sports.
I also have a near insatiable appetite.
Which sometimes made the exercise feel like punishment for overeating. I just love eating food. Naturally when I was young and playing sports I could crush anything and then easily “work it off”. As I got older finished school, played fewer sports, traveled, and then finally went to work, personal training came so naturally because it allowed me to program for myself first while still showing up my best for my clients. A sort of have my cake and a body to be proud of type of situation.
In 2016 when my amazing auntie Joan told me about her experience with her trainer at Devin and I traveled to try it, fell in love, I quit my job, and we started Amped.
The electric muscle stimulation (EMS) suit and impulse changed my whole life. And I do not say that lightly as every movement in our body is electric and adding the impulse is beneficial in so many ways, no matter how you like to move.
The whole XBody system is comfortable, safe, and effective. And I feel so fortunate to be able to work with it every day and workout with it twice a week.
LONG STORY LONG, almost 8 years later and I still am a firm believer in the technology and the way we are using it at Amped. I am so proud of the team Devin and I have built and we are so excited for what’s to come.
