Geronimo Canoe Club

Geronimo Canoe Club Geronimo Canoe Club has won the Canadian Nationals Outrigger Championships and have been selected to

The Geronimo Canoe Club is a team that was established in 1974 by late Ivan Morris and late Madeline Morris (Henry) of the TSARTLIP First Nation. The club was created by late Ivan and late Madeline, for their 4 sons (Wayne, Leonard, Howard and Bruce) and 2 daughters (Sylvia and Ivy) to compete in the traditional war canoe races in different traditional territories of Vancouver Island and the lower

mainland. Over the years GCC has found much success in these competitions. Late Ivan took charge in training the men’s and ladies’ crews not only physically but mentally and spiritually through traditional beliefs. Late Madeline also assisted by instilling her knowledge and traditions into the crew, also she took responsibility for nourishing the club before and after practices and races, which took place on a weekly basis. Now that they’ve passed away, they’ve left behind a great legacy for the Morris family to uphold together.

🌺🇧🇷 U16 V6 Va’a - Keira Seward Shines in Brazil! 🇧🇷🌺
August 17th, 2025 Niterói, Brazil

This morning, our youngest female paddler, Keira Seward, took to the waters of Niterói in the U16 V6 division at the IVF Long Distance World Championships and delivered an outstanding performance, placing 4th overall!

At just 13 years old, Keira showed incredible strength and composure on the world stage. Her crew is proving that age is no barrier to paddling!

We’re beyond proud of Keira and her team for representing our club with such grace and determination. 💪🌊

Congratulations Keira and the entire crew, you made waves today!

🇧🇷🌊 U19 Men’s V6 Va’a, 4th Place Finish at IVF Long Distance World Championships! 🌊🇧🇷
August 16th, 2025, Niterói, Brazil

Today, our U19 Men’s crew took on the world in the 24 km V6 Va’a race at the IVF Long Distance World Championships and they did it with heart. Racing against the top nations in the sport, they crossed the finish line in 4th place!

Even though they raced unofficially due to last minute visa complications with our 6th paddler from Canada, they overcame the setback with the help of Ricardo from Brazil, who stepped in to complete our crew. He helped make this unforgettable race possible.

This team showed what true resilience looks like!

🏆 Meanwhile, across the Pacific…
Our older boys from Geronimo Canoe Club made waves of their own at the Bellingham Bay Classic in Washington State! Racing the intense 18-mile change out course at Lake Whatcom, they paddled with power to take 1st place!

We’re beyond proud of their performance!

From Brazil to Bellingham, our paddlers are showing the world what Geronimo is made of. 🌊🔥

Good evening everyone,

Geronimo Canoe Club has taken the opportunity to collaborate with PPP, as ambassadors of our sacred ocean to bring awareness and help raise funds for PPP.

For Immediate Release: March 17, 2021

Pacific Peoples’ Partnership Launches Inaugural Paddle4Pacific Campaign Paddle 4 Pacific will provide communities, families, and friends, an opportunity to enjoy a paddling activity outdoors while raising awareness and funds for Pacific Peoples’ Partnership (PPP) - a charity that supports Indigenous and South Pacific communities. Join us from May 31st through to June 19th 2021, as we mark World Oceans Day, participants will be invited to safely engage in their favourite paddling activity such as kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, or canoeing (or any other inspired alternative.)

We build solidarity, educate and engage Canadians, and create innovative programming which directly supports and empowers Indigenous and South Pacific peoples. Our organization works in partnership, across a variety of cross-cutting themes. Our primary focus areas are: Gender Equality, Climate Action and Indigenous Rights.

Through the CanadaHelps platform, corporate teams, families, sports teams and individuals can sign up and set goals to get out on the water and paddle. Create some friendly competition and get actively involved in championing this cause!

Funds raised by Paddle4Pacific will be distributed between both our international and domestic programming. 75% of funds will go to our Pacific Resilience Fund – an innovative Indigenous-led fund which supports communities in the South Pacific. The other 25% will go to our domestic programming which supports Indigenous youth, arts, education and cultural exchange programs among many others.

We hope to see you out on the water and !
