This CBC Marketplace investigation is worth watching.
Electric bikes have changed cycling for the better. They’ve allowed more people to ride, ride farther, commute by bike and continue cycling later in life, often with issues that would prevent riding an “Analog” bike.
E-Bikes need to be sold, serviced and ridden responsibly.
At Brantford Cyclepath, looking after our customers means more than simply selling an e-bike. We have never sold an electric bike that does not comply with Ontario’s e-bike laws.
We have never modified an e-bike to increase its speed or power — and we never will.
We do not sell electric scooters. We’ve often described them as being “one pothole away from disaster.” They simply aren't a product we are comfortable putting our name or reputation behind.
We do not service e-scooters or illegally modified e-bikes.
Instead, we concentrate on properly designed, compliant electric bicycles from established bicycle manufacturers — and we make education part of the sale.
We explain Ontario's e-bike rules to our customers, provide e-bike-specific information on our website, and continue that education after the purchase through our e-bike email series covering safe operation, battery safety, trail etiquette, security, maintenance and responsible ownership.
We do not, and will never modify e-bikes to function outside of Ontario regulations.
Our job isn't simply to sell an e-bike. It's to help make sure the e-bike we sell is safe, legal, properly supported — and that our customers understand what they are riding.
