One of the things I love most about line dancing is that there is room for everyone.

There are the classic dances that have stood the test of time and continue to bring people to the floor year after year. There are the exciting new dances that connect us to a larger dance community and keep things fresh and current. And there are original choreographies that remind us that every dance we now call a "classic" was once someone's new idea.

As an instructor, I believe in balance.

I love teaching foundational dances that help dancers build confidence and learn the basics. I enjoy introducing current and popular dances that dancers may encounter at socials, weddings, and community events. And from time to time, I also enjoy sharing original choreography and creative ideas that encourage dancers to grow, challenge themselves, and experience something new.

There is no single "right" way to teach line dancing. Every instructor brings their own style, passion, and strengths to the floor. What matters most is creating an environment where people feel welcome, supported, successful, and excited to dance.

At the end of the day, line dancing is about movement, music, friendship, laughter, and community. If people leave class smiling, feeling accomplished, and looking forward to coming back next week, then I consider that a wonderful success.

Thank you to everyone who continues to dance, learn, and grow alongside me. The joy you bring to the floor is what makes it all worthwhile. ❤️

💃 MY PHILOSOPHY ON LINE DANCE INSTRUCTION 💃

Every so often, I find myself reflecting on what makes a great line dance class.

For me, the answer is simple: it depends on the people in the room.

Some dancers come wanting to learn the newest dances they'll encounter at socials, festivals, and events. Others are stepping onto the floor for the very first time and need foundational dances that build confidence and teach the basics. Some come for fitness. Some come for friendship. Some come simply because dancing brings them joy.

That's why my approach has always been to teach a blend of classic line dances, current popular dances, and occasionally my own choreography. My goal has always been to create a welcoming environment where dancers can learn, grow, and enjoy themselves.

In my classes, you'll find:

✨ Current and trending dances
✨ Classic favorites that have stood the test of time
✨ Beginner-friendly material that builds strong foundations
✨ Community-building activities that bring people together
✨ Original choreography when appropriate
✨ Dance instruction tailored to the people in the room

The beautiful thing about line dancing is that there is no single "right" way to teach. Some instructors focus heavily on preparing dancers for socials where the newest dances are expected. Others focus on fitness, accessibility, confidence-building, or community connection. Most of us find our own balance somewhere in the middle.

When planning a class, I often ask myself:
"What is the purpose of this class today?"

If the goal is preparing dancers for socials, then current dances become important.

If the goal is teaching beginners, foundational dances take priority.

If the goal is building confidence and community, a balanced mix often works best.

If the goal is creative expression, there should be room for original choreography.

None of those approaches are wrong. They simply serve different needs.

It's also worth remembering that many of the dances we now consider standards and classics were once brand-new choreographies that someone was brave enough to share with the world. Line dancing continues to evolve because creative people continue to create.

At the end of the day, my measure of success isn't how many dances I teach from any one category. It's whether people leave class smiling, feeling accomplished, making new friends, and looking forward to dancing again.

And if you're ever curious about what we do in class, the invitation is simple:

Come visit a class and see for yourself. ❤️

Why do I line dance?

Why do I teach it… showcase it… live it?

Because it found me when I needed something to hold onto.
I began in 1994, in the shadow of losing my brother John. In a time when words didn’t quite work, movement did. Music did. Community did. And somehow… line dancing became the place where I could breathe again.

And I never left.

I started teaching that same year — not because I had it all figured out, but because I believed in what it gave me… and I wanted others to feel that too.

Since then, I’ve watched it all.

I’ve watched it soar.
I’ve watched it fade.
And now? I’m living the electric resurgence of it all over again.

I’ve laughed until I couldn’t stand.
I’ve cried when songs hit too close to home.
I’ve built four teams.
I’ve won awards… and I’ve walked away without them.
I’ve been celebrated.
I’ve shown up to empty dance floors.
And I’ve stood in rooms bursting wall-to-wall with energy, boots, and joy.

Through it all… I stayed.
Because this is more than steps.
It’s connection.
It’s resilience.
It’s expression.
It’s healing.
It’s home.
I don’t just teach line dance.
I create it.
I choreograph it.
I produce events.

I pour myself into every detail — right down to the clothing, the music, the feeling in the room.

Why?
Because when that first beat drops…
When a room moves together…
When someone who walked in unsure walks out smiling…
That’s the pull.
That’s why I do it.
And I’m not done yet. 🤍

And today, I just want to say THANK YOU!!!

Thank you to our incredible line dance community… and especially to our students.

We’ve just been honoured in the category of Best Dance Lessons in Brantford again. Over the years, we’ve gone back and forth between Gold and Platinum, and it never gets old — it means something every single time.

Because we are a smaller dance group.

We don’t have hundreds upon hundreds of students like the big studios. What we have is something different. Something personal. Something built from the ground up with heart.

So when our name is called… it’s powerful.

And yes — what we do may be called “just” line dancing…
but there is nothing just about what happens in that room.

Thank you for nominating us for Community Votes Brantford 2026. Your support, your belief, your presence on that dance floor — that’s what built this.

And I promise you… I will continue to do what I’ve always done.

Show up.
Give everything.
Keep building.
Keep dancing.
Because that’s who we are. 🤍

What a night!! 💃✨

Last night 00 We packed in a full class of brand NEW dances—and yes… we definitely felt it by the end 😅 But WOW, what an incredible energy in the room!

Thank you to everyone who’s been sharing dance suggestions and embracing the new material. I hear you—it’s a lot to take in, a lot to remember—but you’re showing up, sticking with it, and absolutely rising to the challenge. That’s what makes this community so special. ❤️

And let’s be clear… bringing in new dances does NOT mean we’re letting go of our old school routines or our originals. Not even close! Our choreography and long-time favorites are still at the heart of what we do—and we know how much you love them (we do too!). They’re here to stay.

What we ARE doing is making sure you feel confident wherever you go—whether it’s socials, clubs, or events—so you can jump in and enjoy all those current and industry favourite dances right alongside everyone else.

Thank you for supporting Brantford Line Dancing for the past 14 YEARS (that still amazes me!), and for dancing with me since 1994. And for the past 7 years, this space has truly been home—and it’s because of all of YOU.

We’ll keep growing, learning, laughing (and yes… reviewing 😉), together!
