Huge Shout Out to the Saskatchewan Junior Handlers!

We are very appreciative of Shannon and the Saskatchewan Junior Handlers, for providing us with a hot lunch on both Saturday and Sunday of our June 26-28, 2026 barn hunt event. The original plan was to BBQ, but the weather 🌧 changed those plans. None the less, we had a lovely hot lunch each day, which was so very nice in the wet weather.

They also sold various flavors of locally-made lip balm. 💋 They are perfect for those sunburnt, windburnt lips of summer.

The Saskatchewan Junior handlers also sold tickets on a few raffle baskets. Congratulations to the winners of the raffle baskets.

They are a fantastic group to work with and we were happy to support them in their fund-raising efforts. I hope you will consider having them attend your next dog sport event.

Wow! We co-hosted a barn hunt event, on June 26-28, 2026, at 4 Limb Gym in Regina. Thank you May Fischer for all you do to make these events happen. I can tell you first-hand, that May's list of jobs is very long. 😊 ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

You cannot host dog sports without a judge. For our June event, Cynthia Sandison, from St. Catharines, Ontario was able to fly to Regina, so we can all play a sport we love, with our dogs. Thank you Cindy for your lovely courses and fair hides. I believe the humidity was presenting some scenting puzzles for the dogs, but most were able to figure things out and locate the rat tubes. It is always a pleasure to have Cindy judge our events. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

We had a wet and windy weekend in Regina. Friday saw high winds, Saturday brought 57.5 mm of rain 🌧 and Sunday brought 19.8 more mm of rain. 💦 Barn hunt competitors are hardy souls and we made it through the weekend without any major hiccups. When you put your trial applications in, many months to a year or more, in advance of the event, you just never know what the weather will be like. You all put on your " big girl panties and boxers" and survived the event. What an amazing community we have in this sport of barn hunt. Thank you all for being you. We love you and appreciate each and everyone of you. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Congratulations to everyone who joined us, you all went home with the best dog in the world. We celebrate your success with you and recognize that some of us have "training challenges". Regardless, we hope you had as much fun attending this event, as we did bringing this event to you. 😊

Our next event is October 23-25, 2026. This will be our Halloween 🎃 trial. We open for entries on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 7 PM Manitoba time. We hope you will mark you calendar, and plan on entering this event.

Day three, the final day of our June 26-28, 2026 event is now complete. Many thanks to all the volunteers who kept the event on track and running smoothly.

Sunday's winners of the Judge's choice award for the dog and handler team were: Sara and Pepper🌶. The winner of the Judge"s choice for volunteers was also Sara. 😊 Many thanks to Dawn Barker who is the creator and sponsor of the prizes for the Judge's choice awards. Dawn always has a lovely selection of prizes that the winners get to choose from, (usually barn hunt-themed merchandise) for their special award. At the end of the day on Sunday, we also did our daily draws. The winners are as follows:

Crazy 8s High Aggregate

Crazy 8s is my favorite class in barn hunt. I love watching the dogs work. I love the excitement and fast pace of some of the teams.

Huge congratulations 🎊 go out to Lori and Rayven for being the recipient of our Crazy 8s High Aggregate Award and earning 310 points at our June 26-28, 2026 event. Congratulations to all who entered this class and had fun with their dogs. ♥️.

In addition to the High Aggregate rosette, Lori also received a beautiful "Rat Coloring Book For Adults" donated by Nicole Vaughn. Thank you Nicole for this lovely donation. 😍

Day one of our June trial is now complete. Many thanks to our lovely Judge Cynthia Sandison, and all of our volunteers who worked so hard on Friday, June 26, 2026 to ensure the trial kept running smoothly, quickly and efficiently! You all deserve a huge round of applause 👏, especially the people who were still working at the end of the evening, and built the Master course for first thing Saturday morning. Winners of the Judge's choice award for the dog and handler team were: Katrina and Trixie. The winner of the Judge"s choice for volunteers was also Katrina. Poor Cindy was given the most difficult task to try and pick a recipient, amongst so many worthy contenders. In the end, we put the names in a basket to draw the winner. 😊 The fact that we had so many worthy contenders for this prize, speaks volumes in regards to our volunteers. The only thing stopping you is fear and common sense. 😂😂😂 Show us your creativity! If I missed handing out a swag bag to you, please come and see me at the secretary table. Send your photos to May, who will post them on the 4LG Fb page on Monday, then go vote for your favorites! Photo with the most votes, by Wednesday, wins a prize from 4LG! The Welcome swag bags were created and generosly donated by May from 4 Limb Gym.

Don't forget to join us for a pulled pork lunch hosted by Shannon and the Saskatchewan Junior handlers. In addition to lunch, they will also be selling chapstick for $5 and tickets on raffle items. I know I always need a few hundred chap sticks 💋 one in the car, on in every jacket pocket, etc. Please consider supporting this wonderful group of handlers and dogs, in their fund raising efforts. 😊

Sponsor alert: Nicole Vaughn has graciously donated a Rat Coloring book for Adults, which will be awarded to the Crazy 8 High Aggregate winner at our June 26-28, 2026 trial. Thank you very much Nicole!

Who loves Crazy 8s? It is a fast-paced exciting class where dogs have two minutes to find as many rats as they can (8 hidden on course) and execute a tunnel and climb. To qualify, you just need to find one rat and finish with a score of 10 points or more. You receive 10 points for a tunnel, a climb and for every rat you find. You will be deducted 20 points for failure to tunnel or climb, or if you incorrectly call a rat (known as a fault, but you can continue to play until you run out of time). The dog and handler team who earn the most points over the course of the event, will receive the coloring book as well as a beautiful rosette. After all the excitement of Crazy 8s, you get to relax and enjoy coloring rats! 🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀
