Last week was a bad week. I want to be honest about it, because you might be starting today feeling the same way.
We went camping and it rained the whole time. The camper leaked. I got one hour of sleep the first night. My nutrition fell apart by day two and one night I ate an entire bag of chips. While I was packing up, I ran into a wasp nest and got stung more times than I could count.
Then the training. After months of really good, consistent work, I barely trained at all. The few sessions I got in went badly, and in one of them I strained my calf and started having knee problems.
That was the day before the 5k Foam Fest I’d been planning to do with my wife and kids for months. I hobbled around the entire course instead of running it with them.
And after the race, I had Wendy’s for the first time in a year. It was delicious.
That’s the week. It was rough.
But here’s the whole reason I’m posting this. Today is Monday, and none of that matters anymore. Not one bit of it. The sleep, the chips, the missed workouts, the Wendy’s. It’s gone. I can’t train last week.
The only thing that turns a bad week into a bad month is deciding that you’ve already blown it. One rough stretch feels like proof that you’re not the kind of person who can do this, so you write off the next week too, and then the one after that.
You don’t have to make up for anything. You don’t have to punish yourself with some brutal workout to “get back on track.” You just have to do the next right thing today. One good meal. One walk. One session.
That’s it.
I’m going to go train as best as I can, eat something decent, and get on with it.
What’s the one thing you’re doing today to start again? Tell me below.
