Holly and Pixie enjoying some mutual grooming this morning. This behaviour is not only functional ~ I’ll scratch your back, if you’ll scratch mine~ it’s also bonding and anxiety relief. Horses given the chance are so good at getting what they need. There is so much we can learn from them 💜

We’ve been catching miss Holly napping a lot these days, which is so lovely to see. About 9 months ago I sold 🐴 back to her original owner and she headed back home to Nelson. This was the right fit and the right choice for Georgia and I. But it’s still hard and I still feel the loss, and although I get amazing updates from her amazing owner it’s still a loss. Nobody felt that more than the herd. And I feel like I didn’t get the horses enough credit, well maybe I gave them credit but I didn’t realize the amount of time that would pass until they would develop their new normal. Napping. At 1030 almost daily the horses would nap. Often Georgia and Holly together. It took Holly almost 9 months to resume her 1030 nap ritual. Horses are sentient beings that feel a deep range of emotions including grief and loss. I wish I could tell my little herd that Georgie is doing well and happy and expecting a baby in May. 🩵😴

I feel like I rarely share on my business page but felt like this one should end up on the grid…… I run a riding school but my work is so much more than that. It’s unique and tailored to meet the student where they are at. This particular student came to me a couple of years ago with a love of horses but had, had some falls and was pushed past her comfort zone to get back on when she wasn’t ready. We started back at the beginning working on relationships from the ground up. She decided to get back on again, it went well But because horses she ended up having another fall off after a spook. This time though I was committed to walk with this student through the next steps. She chose to come and work from the ground ……. For about a year. This student shared with me a few weeks ago that she may want to try riding again. So the last two weeks she’s tacked up and gotten on. This journey has been rich and rewarding and fun for me. We’ve tried all sorts of fun things on the ground from trail walks, using fun props and obstacles, trying out long lining, free lunging and more. But if im honest I’ve also had doubt. Will she get back on, does it matter? Should I push? Although really hard I felt like i needed to guide this student in the path she was comfortable with. It takes the time it takes. Easy to say sometimes harder to live out. 🖤
