We are SO excited that the Estevan Lacrosse Association is hosting Provincials this year from June 26–28, and we were fortunate enough to work with them so they can utilize our surface in addition to the Affinity Place and Power Dodge Centre! 🥍

They’ll be welcoming 25 teams from across Saskatchewan, and we’re thrilled to be a part of helping showcase our region!

And before we know it, Bienfait’s Canada Day celebrations will be here too! 🇨🇦

Our rink will be open all day on July 1, starting with a delicious breakfast provided by Southern Plains Co-op to kick off the festivities.

Now… calling…

CINDERELLLLLA?! 👑✨

Okay, we’re kidding!

But in all seriousness, it’s time to give the arena its annual deep scrub, and we’re looking for a few helping hands.

📅 Monday, June 22

Each year, thousands of kids, families, athletes, and visitors come through our doors. Throughout the hockey season, our wonderful cleaner works incredibly hard to keep the facility looking great, but after a long year, it’s time for all of us to pitch in.

We’re looking for volunteers to bring:
🧽 Rags
🧹 Brooms & mops
🧤 Gloves
🪣 Buckets
✨ And a little elbow grease!

Whether you can spare an hour or stay for the whole cleanup, every bit helps. Let’s work together to get the arena sparkling and ready to welcome lacrosse teams from across the province and prepare for another fantastic Canada Day celebration.

Many hands make light work, and we would love your help! Let us know if you can help! Message us today!

MEET OUR COMMITTEE

Selena Hegland

There are many reasons to join a committee, especially when the goal is to keep our community strong, vibrant, and prosperous.

I have always been a strong advocate for volunteerism, particularly when it supports a meaningful cause. Being involved with initiatives such as the Bienfait Lions Dinner Theatre fundraiser and seeing those funds directly benefit our community brings a tremendous sense of fulfillment. While volunteering requires a significant investment of time, it also provides a deep sense of purpose and well-being, knowing that your efforts are making a difference.

When the opportunity arose to help raise funds for a new arena shell in our community, I knew it was something I wanted to be part of.

Over the 28 years that we have called Bienfait home, our children, nieces, nephews, and now grandchildren have all benefited from the rink and the opportunities it provides. From skating carnivals and hockey games to community events and gatherings, the rink has played an important role in creating memories and shaping the small-town experience that so many of us cherish.

I am excited for the challenge of helping strengthen our community, attracting new families, and ensuring that future generations have the same opportunities and experiences that our families have enjoyed. The culture and sense of belonging that come with living in a small town are truly special, and we should all feel fortunate to be part of it.

A new and improved facility would create endless possibilities for our community. It would allow us to host more sporting events while providing a better experience for players, spectators, and visitors alike. Beyond hockey and skating, the facility could accommodate community dinners, concerts, weddings, family reunions, birthday parties, and countless other events. The possibilities are truly endless.

More than anything, I want to help keep Bienfait thriving. Too many small communities have struggled or disappeared because they lacked the schools, recreational facilities, and strong community spirit needed to sustain growth. We must continue investing in our town and creating opportunities that encourage young families to put down roots and build their futures here.

I encourage everyone to consider volunteering, whether it’s for an hour, a season, or many years. Every contribution matters, and every helping hand makes a difference. Reach out to a local committee, organization, or community group and ask where your time and talents can be best used.

Together, we can make this dream a reality and ensure that Bienfait remains a thriving, welcoming community for generations to come.

They see us rolllllllin’… the hockey bags on the NEW SIDEWALK! 🏒🚶‍♂️

What was once a stretch of 3” rock (that was aesthetically lovely 😅) is now a beautiful new sidewalk leading into the arena!

To complete the look, the larger rock has been replaced with smaller crushed rock, giving the entrance a much cleaner and more welcoming appearance.

We couldn’t be more excited about this improvement!

A huge THANK YOU to Turnbull Redi Mix for helping get us fixed up and making the arena entrance more accessible for everyone who visits. 👏

MEET OUR COMMITTEE:

Katy Turnbull

Why I'm Involved with the Bienfait Rink Revival

My very first hockey game was a Bienfait Coalers game.

To be honest, I had never watched a minute of hockey before that. I'm originally from the United States, and hockey simply wasn't a big part of life where I grew up. Moving to the Estevan area was quite a change, as hockey is such an important part of the culture here. We started attending a few Bruins games and eventually caught some Coalers games as well.

Not long after, Tyson and I signed our daughters up for hockey. We chose Bienfait because of the small-town atmosphere, and it didn't take long for our family to fall in love with it.

Our oldest daughter discovered a passion for hockey. Our youngest daughter made lifelong friends. Tyson and I learned about the game, the rink, and everything that comes with hockey life. We found a community where people support one another, where everyone knows your name, and where there truly is a "home rink advantage."

Long before I joined this committee, Tyson and my father-in-law supported the Bienfait rink through our family business. Being involved now and helping shape the future of the arena is even more rewarding. It's an opportunity to give back to a place that has given so much to our family.

One of the things that motivates me most is knowing our children will be able to look back one day and see what can be accomplished when a group of determined people work together toward a common goal. They'll see firsthand that communities can achieve incredible things through hard work, dedication, and volunteerism.

This fall, our daughter will move to all-girls hockey with Estevan Minor Hockey. Even though our family won't be spending as much time in the Bienfait rink, that doesn't change our desire to see this project succeed. We know how often Estevan teams utilize the Bienfait facility, and we know ice time in the region is limited. A new arena will create more opportunities for kids to get on the ice, develop their skills, and enjoy the game we have all come to love—all just minutes away.

My hope is that people see this project as much more than a hockey arena.

Yes, hockey will always be an important part of the building, but the impact reaches far beyond the ice surface. This facility can serve as a gathering place for the entire community and surrounding area. It can host weddings, family celebrations, fundraisers, charity events, trade shows, meetings, and countless other activities. It will provide local organizations and community groups with another modern space to bring people together.

For me, the Bienfait Rink Revival is about investing in our future while honouring our past. It's about creating opportunities for the next generation, strengthening our communities, and ensuring that the spirit of small-town Saskatchewan continues to thrive for years to come.
