Yesterday was a big day for us! We crossed our outward bound track from July 18, 2022 when we left saltspring. This marks the completion of our world circumnavigation, covering 37,070 nautical miles (68,654km) over 3 years, 7 months and 2 days. We are one of the first Canadian boats to circumnavigate via the northwest passage, the 454th boat to complete the passage and the 15th Canadian sailboat.

It was great to be welcomed back to saltspring at the saltspring sailing club where our sailing adventures first began at the sailing school and as junior members.

The boat is back in the water and we are headed south! It's great to be back on the move again!

The 40 miles to Bella Bella ended up taking us 3 days and 90 miles, fighting fierce headwinds, blowing sleet and electrical storms.
With both our autopilots broken we spent these 3 days taking 2 hour shifts at the helm day and night.
20 miles out of Bella Bella our shroud snapped. Luckily the mast didn't break and we were able to make it into Bella Bella and get Saumure out of the water for repairs
Now it's time to track down a new prop shaft and make a replacement engine mount for the one we broke.

UPDATE: the boat suffered a major driveline failure that we aren't able to repair with our limited resources onboard.
What should have been a 40 mile crossing ended up being a 90 mile upwind battle with blowing sleet, lightning and days spent in two hour shifts at the helm.
The boat is now safely hauled out near Bella Bella as we wait for a new propeller shaft.

We spent three days in Homer rebuilding our transmission and generally repairing the boat.
The harbour in Homer is home to a very healthy population of sea otters.
Also we were very happy to find a well stocked grocery store to replenish our dwindling supplies.
