Yesterday in St. John, NB, 34 women gathered to train together, roll, socialize, and have a good time sharing our love of Jiujitsu. Six of us from Big River Martial Arts and The Vault made the trip for this event. I am grateful to all the women that I train with, and to all the women that make these events happen - Courtney for organizing them, the club owners that host them, and to all the lovely ladies that travel to these events to roll with and learn from each other. It's great to be part of such a supportive group of women and to have the opportunity to roll with so many new women. Many of us are, or have been, at some time, the only woman at our club. We all know what it's like to be the only woman on the mat sometimes, and these events are a great opportunity for us to train with other women. I also want to give a shout out to all the men that have supported us on our Jiujitsu journeys, for welcoming us onto the mats into what is usually a male-dominated training environment, for their guidance and support, and for making our Jiujitsu clubs a safe place for us to train and develop our skills as grapplers. Without the support of all the men and women I've met on the mats, I wouldn't be where I am today. Thank you everyone!
