It's only the FIRST long weekend of camping season…and this is what’s already being left behind at Killbear Provincial Park. Garbage all over the ground. Right beside the dumpsters.

What exactly is the thought process here?

You packed it in. You drove it here. You carried coolers, tents, chairs, food, drinks, and everything else into the park…but somehow the last step is too much?

These parks aren’t maintained by magic.

People come to places like Killbear to enjoy nature—not stare at piles of your trash blowing through the campground the morning after a long weekend.

Do better.

Moose are starting to move more with the warmer weather.

The snow’s gone, and they’re coming out of the bush often right along the roadside in ditches where the fresh growth is coming in. Leftover salt from winter road maintenance is also an attractant.

Dawn and dusk are when they are most active.

If you’re driving Highway 11 or 17, especially along the north shore, keep your eyes up and scan the ditches as far ahead as you can.

Some stretches are worse than others, and they tend to show up in the same spots.

Gas prices are SURGING across Northern Ontario and are expected to climb even higher as the first long weekend of the warm season quickly approaches.

The global oil deficit is over 1.2 billion barrels, rising daily, and will take months if not years to fix. Analysts are warning of global supply issues and expect prices to keep rising and Northern Ontario ends up paying more for it.

W have some of the longest drives and the fewest options for gas along our Northern Ontario routes. 100+ km between gas stations in some stretches. There are limited options to 'shop around' to save a couple of pennies on fuel on TransCanada Highways 11 & 17.

Well....that last post definitely hit a nerve. And based on the comments, it’s not just one highway or town in the north. It’s everywhere.

Let’s see how widespread this actually is across Northern Ontario.

Now that the snow is gone, the highways are finally showing what’s been hiding all winter…and it’s brutal.

Coffee cups. Beer cans. Fast food bags. Random garbage everywhere. Hundreds of kilometres of it.

What exactly is the thought process here?

You’re driving through some of the most remote, untouched parts of Northern Ontario…and the move is to just roll the window down and fire your trash into the ditch?

There are literally towns and gas stations along these routes.

Instead, we get highways that look like a landfill the second the snow melts.

Do better.
