What. A. Weekend!
September Long Weekend 2024 kicked off with a Poker Rally on Friday, Halloween on Saturday, and a fantastic concert on Sunday! Huge thank you to everyone who participated in all the events and those who volunteered!

If you are at the campground tonight we’d love to see any cool moon shots you get! (🌕✅, 🍑❎). Apparently 9:14 will be prime time so you don’t even have to stay up late!

Tonight’s the night! 🌕

A rare Super Blue Moon is gracing our skies, appearing approximately 30% brighter and 15% larger than usual. This is an event you won’t want to miss, as it won’t happen again until January 2037!

The good news is that most of Alberta should have clear skies for viewing the moon. There could be some passing clouds in the southern and central parts of the province, but it won’t last all night.

What makes this Super Blue Moon so special? It’s a combination of two rare lunar events. A "Blue Moon" occurs when there are two full moons in a single calendar month or four full moons within a season (as is the case with this blue moon)—something that happens only about once every two to three years.

When this Blue Moon also aligns with a "supermoon," where the moon is at its closest point to Earth in its orbit, it creates a particularly large and bright full moon. This combination is quite rare, which is why tonight’s event is so extraordinary.

This is the first of four upcoming supermoons, with the next three scheduled for September 17th, October 17th, and November 15th, giving us more opportunities to enjoy these brilliant lunar displays throughout the rest of the year.

We are just days away from the Heritage Day long weekend! We’ve got lots planned for you, including a silent auction all weekend long, the inaugural golf cart poker rally with cash prize for the winner and all other proceeds being donated to the local volunteer fire department, pancake breakfast, Penny carnival, a horseshoe tournament, and capture the flag. Can’t wait to see you there!

Yesterday it was Christmas in July at Willow Grove!! Such a fun day 🎄. Thank you to all the campers who get in the Christmas spirit and all the staff and volunteers who help make it happen!! This was the finale of this years Canada Day Fireworks! Huge shout out to Kurt and his helper Trystan for helping us kick our fireworks up a notch! Looking forward to doing it again on the August long weekend! Thanks again to the Bashaw Fire Department for coming out to be on hand also!
