This week, we lost a cherished member of the BDGSA family, #75 Shane Smith.
Over the past several years, Shane was more than just a supporter of our organization—he was a constant presence, capturing the heart of the game through his incredible photography and offering words of encouragement and wisdom when they were needed most. His passion for the sport and for the athletes he cheered on was evident in every photo he took and every conversation he had.
Beyond his love for photography, Shane was a true sports enthusiast, having played fastpitch himself growing up. He understood the game, the dedication it required, and the joy it could bring, which made his contributions to our community even more meaningful.
But above all, Shane was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He fiercely loved his wife, Karen, and their children, Tristan and Riley, and nothing brought him more happiness than watching them do what they loved. Whether it was cheering Tristan on from the sidelines as he played baseball and football or supporting Riley as she took the field for softball, Shane was their biggest fan. Side by side with Karen, he soaked in every moment, always proud, always present.
Shane and Karen shared a love that was built on laughter, music, and adventure. Music was a constant in their lives, from the songs they played at home to the sights they traveled to see in Nashville, Detroit, and beyond. Their journeys were filled with unforgettable experiences, always seeking out the next great melody, the next shared memory, the next great laugh. Together, they created a life full of joy, love, and deep connection.
His kindness, generosity, and unwavering support touched so many lives, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Our thoughts and hearts are with the Smith and Harding families during this incredibly difficult time. May his memory live on in the moments he captured, the lives he inspired, and the love he shared.
