The Barrie Curling Club is a not-for profit 7-sheet facility at 175 Essa Road in Barrie, Ontario. The club schedules 40 hours of curling per week between 15 leagues from Monday to Friday and Sunday. In addition the club organizes 10 bonspiels, primarily on

Saturdays but also over weekends. The ice is consistently rented to local business and residents who organize daytime curling outings to full weekend bonspiels. In addition the club has a lounge, restaurant, boardroom and large main level area available for rental by residents and businesses. In the summer the ice surface is a concrete floor that can have several purposes. For example, in 2013, the Barrie Curling Club hosted the South Simcoe Rebel Rollers (roller derby league) to over 300 spectators on three occasions.

Curling has its own language, and at first it can sound like everyone else got the dictionary except you.

The good news is you do not need to know what a hog line, hack, guard or takeout is before you start. That is exactly what Learn to Curl is for.

You learn the terms while you learn the game, on the ice, with people there to help you through it.

Want to try curling first? Throw Your First Stone is October 7.

Ever watched curling and wondered what all the yelling and sweeping actually does? 🥌

The calls help teammates communicate about the rock’s speed and direction. Sweeping can help it travel farther and curl less.

You may already know the game from watching it on television or hearing the curlers in your life talk about it. But understanding curling and actually feeling a rock leave your hand are two very different things.

Curious enough to try it? Throw Your First Stone is October 7.

When they hand you the mic, you talk curling. 🎤

We had a lot of great conversations at the Barrie Fair this weekend, but none of it happens without the people who showed up and represented our club.

A huge thank you to every BCC volunteer who spent part of their weekend at our booth, talking with people, answering questions, sharing the sport and having some fun along the way.

And thank you to the Barrie Fair for having us. We loved being part of it.

Now we’re ready to bring all that curling talk back to the ice.

See you this season. 💙❤️

One thing we’re learning at the Barrie Fair? A lot of people think their balance is keeping them off the ice.

One of the questions we keep getting is how someone can curl if balance or getting down into a traditional slide isn’t an option.

One answer? A delivery stick.

You can deliver the rock standing up and still get out there and play the game. No picture-perfect TV slide required.

And we kind of love seeing the reaction when people realize that. Because sometimes “I could never curl” turns into “wait… I could actually do that?”

We’re at the Barrie Fair all weekend, so if you’ve got a curling question, come find us. We’re apparently in the myth-busting business now.

And if this has you reconsidering curling, Learn to Curl registration is open.

See you this season. 💙❤️

Saturday at the Barrie Fair. Let’s do this. 🎡🥌

We’re back for another day of talking curling, meeting people and apparently getting very distracted by everything else happening at the Fair.

If you’re here today, come find us and say hi. And for everyone who keeps telling us they want to give curling a try, remember October 7. Throw Your First Stone is coming.

See you this season. 💙❤️

POV: you came to talk curling and somehow ended up doing the entire Barrie Fair. 😂🎡

No complaints over here. We take “community outreach” very seriously.

We’re here all weekend, so come say hi. And for everyone telling us they want to give curling a try, keep October 7 in mind. Throw Your First Stone is coming. 🥌

See you this season. 💙❤️
