📣 CLUB CLEANUP DAY – THIS SATURDAY @ 8:00 A.M.

We’re rallying the troops for a course cleanup day this Saturday at 8:00 a.m., and we’ve got to give a huge shoutout to Brent Briscoe for spearheading the effort! 💪 Brent has been putting in the work to make sure our course stays in top shape, and now it’s time for all of us to pitch in and show our pride in the place we love to play.

🛠️ We’ll be focusing on general cleanup, spreading mulch, trimming, and clearing out some trouble spots — so bring gloves, rakes, wheelbarrows, trimmers, or any tools you’ve got. Every helping hand makes a difference!

🌳 We’ve also been in ongoing talks with the City of Barrie, and thanks to our advocacy, the City has committed to coming back out to tackle larger debris piles and log clusters in the back half of the course. This is a huge win for the club and a step forward in making the course safer and more enjoyable for everyone.

Let’s come together, clean up, and keep making this course the gem it’s meant to be. See you Saturday at 8:00 a.m.!

🚨 Exciting news! New basket alert! 🚨

Hole 5 now has 2 new basket positions!

There is now a 5A (winter basket position) and 5B (summer basket position - new white basket).

This will help keep the course accessible for all skill levels throughout the year while bringing our only par 4 back into play!

🎉 SANDY HOLLOW IS OFFICIALLY OPEN! 🎉
As of June 17, 2025, the entire 20-hole Sandy Hollow Disc Golf Course is now fully open to the public!

We just received confirmation from the City of Barrie that the final walkthrough has been completed and the crew from Diamond Tree Care has officially wrapped up their work. That means we’re cleared to reopen the full course for play!

This is incredible news and a huge milestone worth celebrating! 🙌

💬 A Huge Thank You:
We want to sincerely thank everyone at the City of Barrie and Diamond Tree Care for their dedication, time, and effort. It took a lot of hands, heavy equipment, and many days of hard work to clear the immense damage left behind by the storm.

A special thank-you as well to Mayor Alex Nuttall, whose involvement helped move this project forward and brought together the right people and departments to get it done safely and effectively.

Diamond Tree Care not only removed the fallen trees but also did an excellent job clearing the course trail, significantly improving player safety. As part of the reopening process, all course closure signage has been removed, and Sandy Hollow is now officially open to the public.

⚠️ Please note that while the trail and course areas are safe, Sandy Hollow remains a natural, forested environment, and some hazards may still exist off the designated path. For your safety, we encourage all players to stay on the course and stick to marked fairways and trails.

🙏 Thank You to Our Community:
We also want to thank our amazing Barrie Disc Golf Community for your patience and respect during the extended closure. We know it was tough, especially with such great disc golf weather — but your support and understanding helped us build an even stronger relationship with the City.

By working together and showing that we can be responsible partners, we’ve made big strides that will help us going forward — from grass cutting and poison ivy control to continued course improvements and support for growing the sport right here in Barrie.

🛠️ Ongoing Workdays:
Even though we’re open, there’s still more to be done. We’ll be hosting community workdays every Sunday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and we’d love your help as we continue restoring and improving the course.

We’re also exploring weekday workday options for those who can’t make weekends — so keep an eye out for updates.

Let’s celebrate this big win for disc golf in Barrie. Get out there, throw some plastic, and enjoy all 20 holes again! 🥏🔥

🚨 Big News at Sandy Hollow! 🚨

We’re excited to share HUGE improvements at Sandy Hollow thanks to our growing partnership with the City of Barrie — and the amazing support from our disc golf community!

✅ Weekly Grass Cutting is Official!
The City is re-cutting the course TODAY after some fairways were missed last week — AND we’re now officially on the City’s weekly mowing schedule! No more overgrown fairways — the course will look great all season long.

We flagged problem areas during today’s walkthrough and the City is stepping up. Crews will be back this week to plan treatment and start spraying to keep the ivy under control — huge for player safety!

🤝 Better Partnership = Better Course!
The City has noticed our community’s respect and patience during closures and cleanup. This stronger relationship means faster responses and more recognition of disc golf’s value in Barrie.

This is a huge milestone, and we want to thank everyone for their patience and support as The City of Barrie and Diamond Tree Care worked tirelessly to make the course safe again.

🚗 Please note: The parking lot will remain closed while cleanup continues on the back half of the course. In the meantime, please park on Benson Drive and walk in to access the course.

🛠️ Community Work Day – Sunday, June 8 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM 🛠️
We’ll be hosting a volunteer work day to help clean up and repair the course—and separate post with all the details to follow later today! The City will open the parking lot that morning so we can bring in hand tools and materials.

🪙 We’ve also created a temporary “Top 20” layout (2 laps of the front 10 holes) and have reopened the course on UDisc for tracking rounds.

Let’s take a moment to celebrate this progress and give a huge thanks to The City of Barrie and Diamond Tree Care for their incredible support and dedication to restoring our course.

See you out there—on the front 10 for now! 💚

Sandy Hollow Update – May 28, 2025

We’re happy to share some good news: cleanup progress at Sandy Hollow is moving along well! The crews brought in by The City of Barrie —two highly skilled arborist teams from Diamond Tree Care, based out of Halton and experienced with disc golf course environments—have been working tirelessly, even through rough weather, to get things back in shape.

Thanks to their efforts, they are nearing completion of the front 10 holes, and if all goes well with the final City walk-through, we are currently projecting that portion of the course could be reopened by the end of next week. So while we're saying in the coming weeks, things are looking very promising! 🙌

Earlier today, BDGC board member Braeden Cameron (with full permission from the City) visited the course to thank the crew for their incredible work. He delivered pizza, Gatorade, and gifted each of them a premium disc golf disc as a token of our appreciation—not just for their hard work, but for the care they’ve shown in preserving the design and integrity of the course during this massive cleanup effort.
(And no—no disc golf was played! The course is still officially CLOSED.)

🙏 A special thank you to Karl KB Briedis for generously supplying the discs we gifted to the crew. It meant a lot to them, and we know they’ll remember the appreciation from our community.

We’re extremely grateful to the City of Barrie for prioritizing Sandy Hollow and dedicating specialized resources to ensure it’s done right. The fact that they brought in a crew with disc golf-specific experience shows a real commitment to our community and this course.

Once the course officially reopens, we’ll be organizing a full community workday to help take things to the next level—repairing tee pads, spreading mulch, and giving the course some much-needed TLC. We hope to see a big turnout from this amazing community when the time comes. Let’s show up strong and help make Sandy Hollow even better than before!

Thank you all for your patience, support, and continued respect for the closure. We’re getting close, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back soon! 💚

Sandy Hollow update - May 26, 2025

It has come to our attention that someone has removed the Closed sign that the City of Barrie put up at Sandy Hollow and there are rumors going around that the course is open.

🚫 Sandy Hollow is still CLOSED 🚫

The City of Barrie has assigned 2 crews of skilled arborists. They have contracted them and brought them in from Hamilton specifically to work on Sandy Hollow because they have experience working on disc golf courses.

This crew worked all last week through the rain. It slowed down progress a bit but they were there every day in the down pour.

They have large equipment on site. They are limbing and taking down trees but have agreed to keep trees, or parts of trees that the BDGC board have identified as crucial for the course layout.

The City of Barrie is putting a ton of resources into this project to make sure it is being done right.

Please repect the work being done and do not go into the park.

Right now the City is happy to work with our club. Let's not change that by not respecting the park closure. The amount of resources being put into our course is huge. Let's be thankful the City deemed our course worth the extra funds to bring in 2 special crews to get the job done right.

We will continue with updates as soon as we have more news to share. Believe me when we say we want to be able to deliver exciting news as soon as we have it!

Until then, let's all continue to support nearby courses and clubs and give the crews at Sandy Hollow all the space they need to get the work done safely.
