"How do I get enough protein at breakfast?"

This is one of the questions I get asked the most.

Some women skip breakfast because mornings are hectic.
Some rely on a protein shake because it's quick.
And many tell me, "I just can't figure out how to get 25–30 grams of protein in the morning."

The truth is, you don't need fancy products or complicated recipes. You just need a little preparation.

One of my favourite breakfasts is this protein bowl:
✅ 2 eggs
✅ ½ cup black beans
✅ 1 cup cooked wild rice
🥑 Homemade guacamole
🍅 Pico de gallo (tomatoes, red onion, cilantro & lime)

I keep the wild rice, guacamole, and pico prepared in the fridge, so in the morning all I have to do is cook two eggs. In less than 15 minutes, breakfast is ready.

✨ Nutrition
• 29 g of protein
• 16.5 g of fibre

No protein powder.
No processed bars.
Just real, whole foods that keep me energized and satisfied until lunch.

And one more thing...

These portions aren't a rule; they're simply an example of what whole foods can provide. If you're still hungry, eat more. Add another half cup of wild rice, more beans, another egg, or extra vegetables. Your body needs enough fuel, and learning to listen to your hunger is just as important as hitting your protein goal.

Healthy eating isn't about eating less—it's about eating enough of the foods that nourish you.

What's your favourite high-protein breakfast, or is breakfast the meal you struggle with the most?

This weekend, I went back home.

My high school, after 100 years, is being taken down. So I took the trip back to my hometown to walk the halls one more time and reconnect with people I hadn’t seen in over 38 years.

What I didn’t expect was how emotional it would feel.

Walking into that school brought back more than memories. It brought back a feeling of community, camaraderie, and support. People who had all gone on to live completely different lives came together for one day because we shared something.

We may have been different back then. Different groups, different interests, different paths. Some of us played sports. Some of us sat together at lunch. Some of us just passed each other in the halls. Someone even joked that we were like The Breakfast Club; all different, yet somehow connected.

And for that one day, none of the differences mattered.

Not income.
Not lifestyle.
Not where life had taken us.
Not the years between us.

What mattered was the connection.

A shared place.
A shared history.
A shared feeling of belonging.

That school may no longer stand, but what it gave us will stay with us. The memories, the friendships, the laughter, and the feeling of being part of something bigger than ourselves.

This is why connection matters.

Healthy connection reminds us that we are not meant to move through life alone. It brings us back to the people, places, and moments that shaped us. It gives us support, even when years have passed.

And sometimes, walking through an old hallway reminds you that a part of your heart has always been there.

Though the building may be gone, Arthur Voaden High School will always live in our hearts.

AVSS forever. 💛

Have you ever gone back to a place that reminded you who you were, or who you still are? I’d love to hear about it.

This is You Fit.

When I started You Fit 5 years ago, I knew I wanted to help women build strength and confidence.

What I did not fully realize was how much this community would become part of that success.

These women show up for themselves, but they also show up for each other.

They celebrate the small wins.
They encourage one another.
They understand that progress looks different for everyone.

And that is what makes this so special.

You Fit is not just about exercise. It is about women feeling stronger, more supported, and more connected to their health.

If you have been wanting to make a change but do not know where to start, this may be your sign to take the first step.

Come join us.

One thing I've learned after years of working with women is that consistency is more important than intensity.

Most women don't need a harder workout.

They need a realistic plan they can maintain.

That's one of the reasons I created the Summer Strength & Mobility Classes.

July 7 - Sept 3
Two sessions per week.

A supportive environment.

A chance to stay strong all summer without feeling like you're starting over in September.

Registration is still open.

Many women work hard all winter and spring, then summer comes and routines start to slip.

By September, they often feel weaker, less energetic, and frustrated that they are starting over again.

That is why the Summer Strength & Mobility Classes are such a great option.

Two days a week gives you structure, support, and consistency without feeling like a huge commitment.

It is a simple way to keep your strength, maintain your routine, and feel good heading into September.

Summer Strength & Mobility Classes start July 7.
