Happy New Year from Rawlogy and hello from the Canadian Rockies! 🇨🇦

My 13-year-old and I were in Banff this week snowshoeing and fat tire e-biking. This was a last minute trip, as our original destination was Alaska to chase the Northern Lights.

However, when Alaskans issue a severe winter weather alert (-40 F), you know it’s best to stay indoors. So, I rerouted us to Canada.

Living in Los Angeles is great, but there is something magical about being in the expansive mountains of the white north that puts health and wellness into clear focus. Fitness feels fun!

For me, 2026 is continuing to have fun in fitness and—as a general rule—in life, as well as building strength, endurance, and mobility at 45, living with joy, working with purpose, and showing up consistently.

Looking forward to sharing this year with you all!

To lose weight or get fitter, you must leverage friction. Make friction your b*tch.

To lose weight, put friction between you and bad habits. Don’t keep processed foods at home. Delete Uber Eats. Friction is having to go to the store and redownload the app. This also applies to getting sober. Don’t keep alcohol in your home. Leave your ID in the car when you go into a grocery store.

To get fitter, eliminate friction. If you flake on the gym constantly, cancel your membership and use the money for home equipment. To walk 10K steps a day, plan an errand that’s 5K steps from home. To get stronger for free, learn bodyweight exercises and animal flow from YouTube.

I walked home from the auto service center because there was too much friction in my schedule today to go for a ruck in the hills. So, I removed friction and was able to hit my daily mileage goal by walking home.

Make friction your b*tch.

A daily walk solves more problems than most people expect. Your energy goes up, stress comes down, mood stabilizes, and weight stops creeping.

Movement has a way of resolving what stillness exaggerates.

In your 40s, energy isn’t unlimited. Parenting, work, and stress are non-negotiables. What IS negotiable is where you choose to spend your time. Some places drain you. Others give energy back. Sedona is one of my energy sources.

Find yours.

Life is so short. Do the things that scare you. Especially if you’re over 40. You might say “I have a lot to lose…” But my response to that is “You’ve got a lot to gain…” Sign up for something that scares you. Face it with an open heart. And absolutely, positively make it fun 🙂

December breaks more fitness routines than any other month.

Not because it’s harder. Because it exposes what’s broken.

You’ve been forcing the same routine regardless of your energy, your life, or what your body is asking for.

So you either quit or white-knuckle through.

There’s a third option: learn to calibrate.

I built a 12-day reset to teach you how. Starts tomorrow.

Holiday sale pricing: $19 (normally $25)
Sign-up closes tonight, Nov 30, at 11:59 PM PT.

p.p.s. I’m running a 12-Day Midlife Energy Reset 🪫➡️🔋 Dec 1-12. One action/day. 10 minutes or less. For anyone feeling stretched thin.

🏜️Sedona has a way of clearing the static. Just a quiet reset you feel in your chest.

As the season gets noisy, here’s the reminder I needed:

Your energy comes from knowing what actually restores you.

For me, it’s slowing down, breathing deeper, and letting the landscape settle me.

Find your version of that this week.

Starting these new daily shorts — snack-sized fitness advice for midlife adventurers and athletes. 1 minute tops for a daily insight that will help you redefine your training and mobility goals.

Today’s is what I like to call the “Midlife Tax.”💰

Fitness in your late 30s, 40s, and 50s stops being about what you can do and starts being about what you can recover from.

Most never make that shift and keep training like recovery is free. It’s not.

This is “Midlife Tax,” the extra recovery cost your body charges now for the same effort you got away with in your 20s and early 30s.

To pay: prioritize sleep, quality fuel, real rest days.

Those who optimize for recovery build sustainable systems.

Those who optimize for intensity are always injured or quit after a week.

Training Week 5 of the Weighted Endurance Program, plus a little LA tour guiding for you.

I’m all-in on rucking. And I think you’ll be seeing more and more people trading high-impact cardio for walking with weight, especially Millennials and GenX.

Here’s my prediction: Millennials and GenX will ditch insane HIIT and cement runs for compound resistance training (push/pull/hinge) + low-impact cardio (rucking, hiking, trail 5K, cycling, rowing, swimming) because it feels good. It’s sustainable conditioning.

I predict this becomes the norm because we aren’t chasing punishment anymore — we’re chasing capability. I rebuilt my routine this way and my body agreed instantly.

And it’s why I started writing Rawlogy Labs — so people don’t have to guess how to train as their bodies change.
