We are so excited to share that part of Quetico Park will be opening today!!
Finally, after so many weeks of uncertainty, we are able to take reservations again.
Summer may be winding down, but September is a wonderful time to go on a canoe trip. Cooler weather means less sweating, less bugs, and more enjoyable campfires in the evening (did we mention that the fire ban has been lifted too?!).
So give us a call at 1-877-597-6418 to get that late season camping trip booked!

.The following entry points will reopen in Quetico Provincial Park on August 21st, 2026:
• Batchewaung Lake
• Sue Falls
• Cirrus
• Quetico

Beaverhouse, Lerome Lake, and Nym Lake parking lots will be open.

Permits can be picked up at Dawson Trail, Atikokan, or Beaverhouse Ranger Stations.

Please phone our Information Line at 807-597-2735 for help planning a route or if you have any questions about which lakes are closed to backcountry travel.

Due to impacts from nearby forest fires, the following backcountry entry points at Quetico Provincial Park are closed until October 31st, 2026:

Affected reservation holders will be contacted and given a full refund or the opportunity to change their reservation (on availability) with no penalty.

To receive a penalty-free refund, please call our reservations team at 1-888-668-7275; do not cancel or change reservations online.

The Quetico Park Closure has been extended to August 14, so we will be contacting groups with planned trips in that timeframe throughout the next few days.
Once again we ask for patience and understanding as we work through this challenging situation.
If you don't have a trip planned for the next two weeks or so, we ask that you refrain from calling the office at this time as we experience much higher than usual call volumes. Instead, you can email your questions to [email protected] and we will respond when we have a quiet moment.
We are not taking new reservations at this time.
Lots of rain and cooler temperatures have calmed the local fire hazard but the presence of large fires still makes many areas unsafe, and are still stretching emergency crews thin.

We are working with Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services and will need to push back the update to August 19th. We apologize for the delay. We know how challenging this is for everyone planning backcountry canoe trips.

Due to impacts from nearby forest fires, Quetico Provincial Park has extended the closure of Quetico’s backcountry and all backcountry entry stations also remain closed. The current proposed backcountry reopening date is August 21st, 2026.

Public safety is our top priority. We will reopen the park as soon as it is safe to do so. We will be reassessing again on August 19th, 2026 if further cancellations are required.

Affected reservation holders will be contacted and given a full refund or the opportunity to change their reservation (on availability) with no penalty.

The Quetico Park Closure has been extended to August 8, so we will be contacting groups with planned trips in that timeframe throughout the next few days. Unfortunately we have received word that the White Otter/Turtle River area is also closed for canoeing at this time. That closure will be reevaluated on July 30th.
Once again we ask for patience and understanding as we work through this challenging situation.

Edited July 25th, 2026:

Due to impacts from nearby forest fires, the closure of Quetico Provincial Park backcountry areas and Dawson Trail Campground is being extended until August 8th, 2026.

As a result, if any portion of your reservation falls within the closure period your entire reservation will be cancelled and refunded in full without penalty. There is no need to contact Ontario Parks to receive your refund.

In addition, if you determine that you need to cancel your future reservation due to wildfire activity outside of the current closure dates, you may also do so without penalty by contacting our call centre at 1-888-668-7275 (open daily, 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. ET) and speaking with a reservation agent.
Do not change or cancel reservations online.

Please allow up to ten business days for any applicable refund to appear on your credit card statement.

We understand that this closure will affect your plans and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Ontario Parks will continue to monitor the situation and conditions closely and will notify affected customers if the closure period is extended further. We hope to reopen access to the Park as soon as it is safe to do so.

Thank you to everyone who has been asking after us over the last few days; we appreciate your concern.

At this point all of our guests, staff and infrastructure are safe and with cooler temperatures and some rain in the forecast we are cautiously hopeful that the situation will come under a bit more control over the next week or so.

Until that happens though, we are unable to take any new reservations. We appreciate your understanding.

Quetico Park, including the backcountry and Dawson trail campground, are closed immediately due to ongoing fire activity until July 18, at which point the park will re-evaluate the situation.

We are in the process of contacting groups that have reservations in the affected timeline. We understand that you may have concerns about a planned trip into Quetico after July 18th but ask that you be patient with us as we experience higher than usual call volumes at the office. We also unfortunately have no additional information beyond what is provided in this post.

Please consult the Ontario Fire Map for the most up to date information regarding forest fires in the area.

Our area is called Ontario's Sunset Country for a reason. We boast absolutely stunning sunrises and sunsets, but sometimes we overlook how gorgeous the sky can be midday!
