Dear Kenwood Athletic Club (KAC) Members,
On Monday morning some of our members became aware of this notice on our front door.
We were shocked and saddened as well. KAC believed it was engaged in negotiations with our landlord, 11373323 Canada Inc., to extend or renew our lease. We will continue to pursue good faith negotiations in accordance with the terms of our lease.
Being closed during the Covid pandemic for 12 out of 24 months proved to be quite difficult and the years since have not gotten much easier as our space sustained consistent damage due to major leaks in the roof and water pipes. The gymnasium floor installed in early 2019 has been ruined and requires extensive repairs as does the wood floor in our studio and squash court.
Additionally, we have been unable to upgrade in our weight room and cardio area for fear of further damage. During this time we were in regular contact with the ownership group of the building, however, the disrepair and the damages have continued to this day.
The KAC has been a community institution for almost 20 years (2005). For some, it is the basis of their mental health, their social life, and their physical health. I understand people may feel hurt by the uncertainty and I really do care but for the moment the circumstances are out of my control. We recognize the inconvenience this places on you, as members I ask for your patience and understanding as we work through this process as efficiently as possible to be able to provide you with answers on the future of the KAC in our community.
My intention is to fight for all users of the KAC, past, present, and future, and would appreciate any support you can offer.
Thank you
Sincerely,
Doug Cavanagh
Director Of Operations
