The Company literally started in the back yard of the house they share. Spending an evening lounging in the backyard that backs on to a water front park, they would sit there for hours and watch the quiet park come alive with pre-teens creating a ruckus. As they saw their neighbour get annoyed yelling out that they will call the cops on the kids, they decided to ask one youth why they were there s
o late at night the teen turned to say “Because we have nowhere else to go” and with that statement the two old college roommates knew something should be done. They sat there for the rest of the night thinking of how they could help the youth and keep them on a straight and narrow path, by the end of the night Alcona’s Haven was founded. The next week the pair had drawn up company plans for the organization, and had gone to the bank to get a loan to buy a store front on the IBR. On June 11th 2011 the pair had purchased the shop at 5112 Innisfil Beach Road. On July 15th 2011 Alcona’s Haven was open to the public and has been helping to keep Alcona’s youth off the streets ever since. The rate of pre-teens to teens being arrested for disturbing the peace has gone down 10% in the past two years. Alcona’s Haven has kept to their mission statement “Making a difference from the ground up” by helping change the pre-teens of today so they can help change the future of Alcona. Alcona’s Haven is run by the co-owners Maggie Hubbard and Alannah Leach, they have spent the past 2 years keeping the pre-teens off the streets and in a safer place. Alcona’s Haven as an organization gives back to the community once a month in a big way.
