When the BDF Sporting Club Executive Committee led by Chairman Colonel Thekegelo Nelson Gabofiwe made the bold decision to reset and rebuild BDF XI, it was never going to be an easy process. It required courage, patience and belief in the future.
While many teams pursued experienced players, The Camo Boys chose a path less travelled, investing in youth and building for tomorrow. A squad made up largely of players between the ages of 16 and 23 was assembled, with 16 players from 1st and 2nd Division, experiencing Premier League football for the very first time. Five (5) others had only one season of top flight football experience.
To guide this young squad, the club brought in experienced coach Mogomotsi Mpote alongside performance analyst Johanssen Mathe. The mission was clear, build from the ground up, mentor young talent and secure the clubโs Premiership status while laying foundations for the future. That mission was achieved.
This team showed courage throughout the campaign. An 18 year old led the clubโs scoring charts and finished among the leagueโs top 7 goal scorers. In defence, a 16 year old regularly started at right back, while the responsibility between the posts often rested on the shoulders of 17 and 21 year old goalkeepers.
BDF XI finished the 2025/26 FNB Premiership season in 12th position with 30 points, a respectable finish for one of the youngest and least experienced squads in the league.
This was never just about the standings. It was about building a system, restoring identity and creating a sustainable future for the club. Let not position 12 deceive you. This is work in progress. This is a plan in motion.
Through consultation with club legends and continued support from management, technical staff, supporters and the Botswana Defence Force leadership, the club remains committed to building a competitive team while contributing to the growth of local football.
The foundation has been laid, The future is Now.
