Champions Rise at Sesiro Jwaneng Open as Spectacular Golf Tournament Draws to a Close

The curtains have officially closed on a highly successful and well-attended golf tournament that brought together talented golfers from across the country for a weekend of competitive action, sportsmanship, and memorable performances.

Golfers competed across various categories, including the Professional, Championship, Division A, Division B, and Junior divisions, with participants displaying exceptional skill and determination throughout the tournament.

In the Professional Division, Edwin Madigela emerged as the overall champion with a score of 224, ahead of Kesentseng Dube (234) and Fish Pabalinga (236). Agang Diraditsile and Peter Matiashe completed the top five.

The Championship Men’s title went to Yieke Ajulu after an impressive total score of 228, while Mathews and Sipho Abueng finished second and third respectively. In the ladies’ category, Loapi claimed the Championship title with a score of 262, followed by Maru and Tuduetso.

Division A honours in the men’s category were secured by T.R. Mokoti, who carded a score of 152, with N. Pagiwa and Rasekoko taking second and third places. In the ladies’ category, Masego Malila topped the standings with 56 points, ahead of Omphiler Keitaile and Joyce Kewagama.

The Division B men’s competition was equally competitive, with Atang Mokgware emerging victorious on 66 points, narrowly edging Bon Siakalangu, who finished on 65 points. Noboth Yasini claimed third place with 61 points.

The junior golfers also impressed throughout the tournament. Kgato Keseabetswe claimed top honours in the Under-19 and Under-15 categories with a score of 172, while Anenyasha Hwata finished second with 181. Maru Chokwe was named Best Under-19 Girl, while Thomo Mokgatle walked away with the Best Under-19 Boy award.

The tournament also recognised outstanding daily performances across the three days of competition, with several golfers receiving daily prizes for their impressive rounds.

Tournament organisers expressed gratitude to all golfers, sponsors, officials, volunteers, and supporters whose contributions made the event a resounding success. They noted that the growing participation and high standard of play continue to strengthen the game of golf and further develop the country’s sporting community.

With another successful edition now concluded, attention turns to the next major event on the golfing calendar – the Makgadikgadi Open.

Stanbic Bank Botswana in partnership with
Stanbic Bank Gaborone Golf Club has launched a Junior Development Programme aimed at introducing golf to children and youth aged 6-19 while using the sport to build character, leadership, and life skills.

Built on internationally recognised development models, the programme will provide structured coaching, school outreach initiatives, teacher training, and access to equipment, ensuring more young people can participate regardless of background.

Beyond developing golfers, the initiative focuses on nurturing qualities such as discipline, integrity, resilience, respect, and teamwork, while creating a pathway for future talent development in Botswana.

Training begins in July, with the club targeting at least 100 junior golfers as it works to make the sport more accessible and impactful for Botswana's youth.

From Week 18 to Week 19 — Botswana golf is moving in the right direction.

Following the recent tournament, Botswana’s top amateur golfers registered notable movements in the World Amateur Golf Rankings:

• Lone Masalila remains Botswana’s highest-ranked player, continuing to lead the charge on the continental stage.
• Thomo Mokgatle climbed significantly, improving both his world position and points average after a strong showing.
• Matthews Mokalake also continued his upward rise with another positive jump in the rankings.

The growth may look small on paper, but in world golf rankings every point, every finish and every tournament matters. Step by step, Botswana golf continues to gain momentum internationally.

Mokgatle Leads Botswana’s Brave Charge at African Golf Championship-Region 5

Botswana’s golfers delivered determined performances at the African Golf Confederation and R&A tournament held at Ezulwini Golf & Country Club in Eswatini, competing against some of the continent’s rising talents.

Leading the local charge was Thomo Mokgatle, who secured an impressive 11th place finish overall with a total score of 226 (+10) after rounds of 78, 74 and 74. Mokgatle showed consistency in the final two rounds to finish just outside the top 10.

Another commendable performance came from Baatile Kevin Mangole, who finished in 23rd position on a total of 243 (+27). Despite a challenging final round, Mangole displayed resilience throughout the competition.

Lone Masalila also represented Botswana proudly, ending the tournament in 24th place with a score of 244 (+28) after improving significantly in the second round.
Meanwhile, Mathews Mokalake completed the event in T25th position on 246 (+30), bouncing back strongly in the final round with a score of 79.

Overall the team finished in position 6 out of 9 countries that participated.

The tournament attracted golfers from across Southern Africa, including South Africa, Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Lesotho and hosts Eswatini.

The curtain has officially fallen on the 5th Delta Botswana Junior Championship;a thrilling three days at the Stanbic Bank Gaborone Golf Club!

Nearly 100 young golfers, from Botswana,Brazil,,Zimbabwe,Namibia,Zambia and South Africa aged 6 to 19, showcased incredible talent, passion, and sportsmanship, proving that the future of Botswana golf is in great hands.

Minister of Sport and Arts, Jacob Kelebeng, also paid a visit to the course, sharing in the excitement and emphasizing the importance of hosting tournaments of this scale for youth development.

Congratulations to all the winners and well done to every participant for rising to the challenge!
