Dear Hockey Family and Friends,

Please join the Botswana Hockey Association (BHA) today as we gather to honor, remember, and celebrate the incredible life of our beloved former President, Ms. Unaswi Matebu.

The details of the memorial service are as follows:

📅 Date: Today, Tuesday 26th May 2026

🕓 Time: 16:00 (4:00 PM)

📍 Venue: Bible Life Church, Broadhurst Branch, Tshimo Tharo

All members, athletes, and officials are highly encouraged to attend as we pay our respects and support the family during this difficult time.

FIH President Tayyab Ikram mourns the passing of Unaswi Matebu:
"Very saddened to hear of the passing of former President of the Botswana Hockey Association, Unaswi Matebu, especially at such a young age.
An FIH Education Committee member, she was a true, committed, and dynamic ambassador for the development of hockey not only in Botswana but throughout the Southern African region and beyond.
She will be deeply missed.
In my personal capacity and on behalf of the global hockey community, I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to her family and friends, especially our hockey colleagues and friends in Africa."

THE BOTSWANA HOCKEY ASSOCIATION MOURNS THE PASSING OF MS. UNASWI MATEBU

Ms. Matebu 🇧🇼 was a pioneering leader whose dedication, wisdom, and unwavering commitment laid a strong foundation for hockey in Botswana. Her vision and selfless service helped shape the BHA, and her legacy continues to inspire administrators, coaches, players, and umpires.

On behalf of the Executive Committee, the national teams (the leopards), and the entire hockey fraternity, I extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all those who worked closely with her.

Her contribution to Botswana sport will not be forgotten.

May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may we, as a hockey family, honour her memory by continuing to work together with the same spirit of inclusion, professionalism, and excellence that she championed.
