The Snowman Race draws inspiration from the prescient wisdom of His Majesty The King in bringing hope and people together from all over the world to address the greatest challenge of our global community - the fast-changing climate. The route of the Snowman Race is visible proof of the effects of climate change - receding glaciers, ecosystem disruption, and socioeconomic impact on nomadic life. A
total of the top 30 ultra-runners will take on this unique and most inspiring challenge, joining a nation’s call to bring the attention of the world to the melting glaciers of the Himalayas caused by a warming planet. With an average elevation over 14,000 feet (4,267 meters) and multiple summits over 18,000 feet(5,486 meters), the 5-day race follows a 138-mile (222 km) high-altitude trekking route called “Snowman Trek” that has been conquered by fewer people than Mt. Against a backdrop of staggering mountains and majestic glaciers, the route begins in Gasa, before the route traverses Lunana, one of the most remote areas in Bhutan.
