UB Athletics sends special birthday wishes to one of the finest basketball players to graduate from our programme, Kemsy Sylvestre.
Kemsy was a hardworking student-athlete who successfully balanced multiple jobs, practices and his academic responsibilities. We still remember the passionate support of his mother, sister and especially his niece, whose favourite chant was, “Das my uncle!”
Mr. Sylvestre left a lasting legacy at UB, leading the men’s basketball programme in game appearances, scoring and rebounds. His records established a standard for the new generation of Mingoes basketball players to pursue.
His love for sport and community service has continued beyond graduation. He has organised summer programmes, worked with schools and encouraged young people to pursue their dreams through athletics.
In 2025, Mr. Sylvestre coached an alumni team featuring several of his former players against alumnus Garvin Lightbourne and the CARIB squad, guiding his team to victory by more than 50 points.
He also became the first basketball player to receive a Mingoes Award for Male Athlete of the Year. He was a member of the basketball team that earned Team of the Year and became the first registered UB student-athlete selected to play for The Bahamas senior national basketball team alongside professional players such as Buddy Hield.
Congratulations and happy birthday, Mr. Sylvestre. Thank you for the legacy you created at UB and for continuing to inspire the next generation through sport and service. Enjoy your special day!
