The World Poker Federation stands in solidarity with the Colombian Poker Federation (FCP) and Colombia’s poker community regarding the incident at the Colombian Poker Championship in Barranquilla on May 8, 2026. Since November 16, 2024, poker has been globally recognized by the International Mind Sports Association (IMSA) as a legitimate mind sport. Colombia’s Ministry of Sports formalized this recognition through Resolutions 000123 and 000157 (2025), recognizing poker as an official sports discipline.
The WPF is open to dialogue and ready to provide technical documentation, research, and evidence demonstrating poker’s institutional legitimacy as a mind sport, both internationally and in alignment with Colombian regulatory frameworks, to Coljuegos and all stakeholders. Our commitment is to foster constructive conversations grounded in facts and global best practices.
This is a chapter in poker’s journey toward full institutional recognition in Colombia. We remain confident that through evidence-based dialogue, alignment is achievable. The WPF will continue supporting the FCP and Colombia’s entire poker community as we move forward together.
