LAST CLASS IN SAMBAVERSARY SERIES: CELEBRATING 19 YEARS OF SAMBA LOVE!!!
😍19 years ago my Samba love story began…
It was on Sunday, May 4th, 2003 after a fun day at the beach with a friend that I was drawn to the Club Brasil night at Cafe Sevilla in San Diego, CA. I got dressed in my favorite dance pants (I still have those pants, since 2000. I’ll try to find the photo and share later), and headed over there. I was immediately greeted with warmth from the moment I walked down the stairs. People were speaking to me in a foreign language, walking up to me with smiles and kisses, and then I saw the most beautiful woman with incredible energy moving her feet so fast. I dropped my things off and joined her and others on the dance floor. It was a Rio style samba lesson being given by Maria Lane, a talented, passionate dancer who you should learn from if you have not already! I was hooked on this dance, even though I had no idea what my body was doing. Next came Christine Portella, with her cool, sexy strut and I was falling in love. The DJ was Steve Spencer, aka DJ Baiano, and I found myself moving to such a sweet groove. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, IT DID! A live band started at 10, with big drums and great vocals! I FELL IN LOVE at the first boom chicka boom!
The love affair has continued and gets stronger with each year and new connection.
