Bahrain's medalists from the field of bodybuilding and weightlifting have been honored by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) for their achievements in international competitions this year.

Among the recipients of the cash prizes were silver medalist in the up to 65kg category Ali Helal, silver medalist in the up to 80kg category Nassrulla Al Sayed Hashim (shown in the picture on the left), and bronze medalist in the up to 75kg category Arafat Yaqoub, all of whom scored at the 2013 IFBB Asian Championship held in Kazakhstan in May this year.

Another honoree was Salman Al Kindi, who had a very successful run at the Arab Weightlifting Championship held in Doha, where he received three gold medals in the junior division.

Bahrain Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Federation president Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa expressed his appreciation towards the BOC board of directors, who created this initiative under the President of the BOC Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

It aimed to boost the morale of Bahraini athletes and ensure their continued participation at championships. Acting general secretary of the BOC Abdulrahman Askar spoke with pride of Bahrain's talented athletes and of their ability to compete at an international level.

Bahrain's Reza Monfaradi, founder and head coach of Reza's Martial Arts, won 3rd place yesterday at the Rio International Masters and Seniors competition, organized by the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation.

After three tough fights, Monfaradi (shown in a black kimono) lost in the semi-final in a very close call.

He brings back the bronze medal from the home of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as he continues to be the only Bahraini fighter to be internationally scoring medals at black belt level.

Borussia Dortmund beat Bayern München 4-2 to receive the German Supercup in an exhilarating match at the sold-out Westfalenstadion.

After losing to Bayern 1-2 in the Championsleague Finale in May this year, Dortmund managed to score 4 times in a game that Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp described as "an awesome game - both teams ran up and down like there was no tomorrow."

Bayern's new coach Pep Guardiola stated: "We did a good job, but we played against a very strong team." He referred to it as a good experience for his team.

The Bundesliga matches will resume at the beginning of the new season on August 11, 2013.

General Organisation for Youth and Sports (Goys) president Hisham Al Jowder stressed the importance of activating the role of national sports clubs in the kingdom's youth and sports action system.

During the meeting, Al Jowder was briefed on future needs of Ittihad Al Reef Club as both parties held talks on taking advantage of the available sports facilities, in addition to discussions on completing the new administrative building, which was constructed by Goys.

On the occasion, Al Jowder said the project comes within the framework of the leadership directives to provide better conditions and attract young Bahrainis to participate in various youth and sports activities in the kingdom.

He praised at the same time the continued and tireless efforts of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa on all infrastructure works carried out by Goys.

Bahrain's national swimming team have departed for Barcelona, Spain to participate in the 15th Federation Internationale de Natation (Fina) World Championships, which is now going on until August 4.

Fina is the world's governing body for aquatic sports including swimming, diving, water polo, and the like.

The kingdom's delegation is being headed by Bahrain Swimming Association board member Tareq Salem, and it includes coach Alexander Carbloa and swimmers Khaled Abdulla Ali Baba, F***j Saleh F***j, Farhan Saleh F***j and Sameera Al Bitar.

Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), “the Home of Motorsport in the Middle East,” will host its third weekend of exciting Ramadan events, following two consecutive rounds over the last two weekends.

The second round of Drift Nights takes place tonight (July 25), while the third round of the Burnout Nights series takes place tomorrow (July 26). Both competitions will be held at car parks four and five, located at BIC’s world-class facilities. The entry fee to participate in either event is BD5. Fans wishing to catch the action up-close can get into a car as a passenger by paying BD2. Registration on both nights gets underway at 8pm and top performers will receive prizes at the end of each night.

Bahrain's under-22 Olympic football team take on Turkish Super Lig side Kayserispor tonight in a friendly match held as part of their ongoing training camp in Turkey.

The tie is the first of three warm-up games the Bahrainis will play while at camp.

The nationals are currently preparing for the Olympic Teams Gulf Cup, which will be hosted by Bahrain from August 15 to 25.

Following this evening's contest, the Olympic team will play another friendly on Saturday and then again on Tuesday next week. All three matches are against Super Lig sides.

Under the auspices of the Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Late Shaikh Faisal bin Hamad Al Khalifa Five-a-Side Futsal Championship will kick-start today at his Hall at the Riffa Sports Club in Hunainiya with 16 teams in the fray.

BAHRAIN'S Olympic football team yesterday kicked off their training programme at their overseas camp in Turkey, in preparation for next month's Olympic Teams Gulf Cup.

The tournament is set to be hosted by Bahrain from August 15 to 25, and the under-22 nationals, coached by Englishman Anthony Hudson, are determined to defend home field and claim the title for the first time in the competition's history.

After a long journey from Bahrain, the team was required to travel to a venue another 56 kilometres outside of the capital Istanbul for their camp.

Despite the fatigue, the Bahrainis immediately began their on-pitch programme yesterday under the watchful eye of Hudson.

Three of Bahrain's leading jiu-jitsu practitioners will be competing in a pair of top international events in Rio de Janeiro beginning later this week.

Ali Monfaradi and Ali Hassan will both be competing in the Rio International Open Championship, while Reza Monfaradi will be taking part in the International Master and Senior Jiu-Jitsu Championship.

Both competitions get underway on Thursday and continue until Sunday next week, and each is an International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) event.
