Rising through the ranks of the Japan Karate Association, Kagawa became a multiple-time All Japan champion, earning recognition not for brute strength but for his exceptional timing, speed, and tactical awareness. His kumite style emphasized entering at the perfect moment, striking with accuracy, and controlling distance—principles that later defined his teaching. As a senior JKA instructor, he helped influence modern Shotokan by blending traditional fundamentals with practical, competition-ready application. Today, his legacy is seen worldwide, not just in titles he won, but in how he reshaped the understanding that in karate, precision, timing, and thinking will always overcome raw aggression. 🔥

IJKA Japan HQ is pleased to announce that Headquarters instructor Shosuke Watanabe (4th Dan) will be dispatched to the IJKA European Championship in Bulgaria to be held this July.



I am very happy that the IJKA Open European Championship will be held in Bulgaria.

I would like to thank IJKA Bulgaria Representative Anton Sensei, President Emil Sensei, and all the Bulgarian instructors who have been preparing for the tournament for a long time.

Last year, Anton Vandev Sensei and two trainees came to Japan from Bulgaria and took a one-month training course at the Japan Headquarters. During this time, the members of the Japan Headquarters and the Bulgarian members deepened their friendship with each other and made a great contribution to mutual understanding between the two countries. When we found out that the IJKA Open European Championship would be held in Bulgaria, the home country of our good friend Anton Sensei, all the Japanese instructors at the Headquarters offered to support. Among them, I have nominated instructor Shosuke Watanabe (4th Dan), who has been my assistant for many years. I am confident that by watching his demonstration, everyone participating in this event will be able to understand the standard level of Shotokan karate in Japan, and will be able to make a significant contribution to the technical development of IJKA members. I look forward to meeting you all in Bulgaria.
