Aerobattle 2016

Due to a terrible forecast for tomorrow, the first comp day (23 August) is canceled. Waterbattle 2016 will move to Dushantsi dam for canoeing.
We hope to have better flying days till the end of the week.
The opening ceremony will be at the main square in Chelopech village (9h, 23/08). It will be held in traditional Bulgarian style – with music and bread. Everybody is welcome!

Поради лоша прогноза, първият състезателен ден (23 август) се отменя. Водна битка 2016 се мести на язовир Душанци за кану и каяк.
Надяваме се за повече летателни дни до края на седмицата.
Церемонията по отриването ще бъде на площада в с. Челопеч (9ч, 23/08). Ще се проведе в традиционен български стил – с музика и погача. Всички са поканени!

Aerobattle pilots attended the closing ceremony this morning and then they went flying. Turns out training day and free-flying day are of the most excellent conditions.

A great flying day. Finally, on the final day, 8 pilots reached the final, completing the whole task. Although the cloud base was at the take-off, the wind, not being strong, helped the pilots on their 39,5 km way to Dupnitsa.
Aside from the finalists, we had 3 fly&hiking pilots, forming the huge triangle – New Zeland, Japan, Bulgaria. Hope they had a great day.

Task four was mostly in the flatlands and the 63 km mission was set against the wind. Once again the points were hard to reach – two pilots, Yassen Savov and Valery Tzvetanov, landed at the final without completing the whole task.

We had a 53.2 km task won by Yassen Savov, who was short to the final by 500 m. There were 4 turn points: the first one was Mechit peak, the second one – Yastrebets take-off, the third and fourth turn points were located in the valley of Samokov – Dospey village and Belchin Bania, the goal was set at Samokov.

Conditions were difficult: blue sky, inversion at about about 2 400 m and broken weak thermals. Patient working through the ridges was the right tactic.

Task 2 is set to 42.2km.
The wind speed dropped and we flew a small task with relatively low cloud base. The first part of the task was in the mountain then a little bit of valley and the goal was close to Samokov. The task proved to be difficult for the pilots due to the weak weather conditions. Nevertheless, a few of them managed to land a few kilometers before the finish line.
