๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ… Medal Monday! ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท

This one comes from crossing the finish line of the Middle Distance Triathlon at Chantilly Castle.

The funny thing is, I wasnโ€™t even sure I would make it to the start line.

At the end of April, I badly sprained my ankle. Running was out. Cycling was out. Even swimming hurt. Looking back, my body was probably still recovering from the Paris Marathon.

Only three weeks ago, my doctor finally gave me the green light to start training again. Three weeks isnโ€™t much preparation for a middle-distance triathlon, and I seriously questioned whether I should even start.

My coach had a different opinion.

His advice: โ€œTreat it as a very long training session and do the Middle Distance.โ€

I tried to negotiate my way down to the Olympic distance. He wasnโ€™t having it. ๐Ÿ˜…

Crossing the finish line was a huge relief. It reminded me that I can still do this, while also showing me exactly what needs work over the next few weeks.

Most of all, Iโ€™m glad I listened to my coach.

Another chapter added to my Trainingsparkle book.

Now the focus shifts to Ironman 70.3 Versailles in just four weeks. The journey continues.

What about you? What are you training for right now? ๐Ÿ‘‡

Hey, Iโ€™m Mike a marathon runner, coach, creator of MikeRunsMarathons, and a proud dad to my daughter, Lou Lou. Iโ€™m based in the U.S. and share life (and miles) with my wife Emily and our growing family.

My running journey didnโ€™t start with a finish line it started at rock bottom. In 2019, I signed up for my first race, the NAMI 5K, during one of the hardest chapters of my life. That race changed everything. It showed me what resilience actually looks like.

Since then, Iโ€™ve gone on to run 16 marathons, including all six World Marathon Majors becoming a Six Star Finisher and now chasing my second star journey.

Running is more than miles for me. Itโ€™s how I process life, build community, and remind others they belong in this sport exactly as they are.

Whether Iโ€™m racing, coaching through At Your Own Pace, or sharing stories on my podcast and Substack, my goal is simple: make running feel accessible, inclusive, and real.

Because this sport isnโ€™t about pace itโ€™s about showing up.

And now? Iโ€™m chasing finish lines with Lou Lou watching on the sidelines ๐Ÿซถ

๐Ÿ“•Meet Simon ๐Ÿ‘‹

Simon is 46 years old and lives in Volendam๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

His running journey started off pretty innocently. Back in April 2015, a small running group was formed at his workplace with the goal of taking part in the Dam tot Damloop. Simon decided to join. Training twice a week, building up step by step, and working towards races. Just staying active, without big expectations.

But somewhere along the way, something changed.

Around 2020, things started to get more serious: training three times a week, running longer distances, adding more structure. And then came the moment that changed everything: his first marathon, in Bruges. Crossing that finish line felt like a victory thatโ€™s hard to put into words. From that point on, he was hookedโ€ฆ What started as a challenge grew into a true passion or, as he calls it, a small addiction.

By now, Simon has completed nine marathons, six of them abroad. Each one has its own story, but one stands out above the rest: New York. The energy, the city, the crowdโ€ฆ an experience heโ€™ll never forget.

His motivation? To keep growing, pushing his limits, and enjoying every step along the way. For him, running is not just physical โ€” itโ€™s also a mental outlet: a way to clear his mind and just go.

Of course, there are tough moments too. Injuries, dips in motivation, or training sessions that simply donโ€™t go as planned. But those moments make the good runs even more valuable.

This fall, a new goal is on the horizon: the Loch Ness Marathon in Scotland. Time to create new memories.

And those memories mean everything to him. Thatโ€™s why he chose to capture his running journey in the Trainingsparkle yearbooks.

Not just for now, but also to look back later on all the miles, emotions, and special moments that make this journey so unique.

Curious about Simonโ€™s adventures? Make sure to follow along.

Hi, Iโ€™m Kaitlin. Iโ€™m 29 years old and live in Eugene, Oregon with my husband and dog, Kona.

I have ran and swam competitively since I was 8-9 years old. I did both sports all the way through college. I actually have a few school records for swimming at my school. These sports have such a big place in my heart.

During high school, I learned what an Ironman was. From that moment, I knew I wanted to complete one and compete at the Ironman World Championships! I did my first triathlon, a sprint distance, the summer after I graduated high school. I was hooked! I did my first Ironman in 2017, second in 2021, third in 2024 and fourth in 2025! 4th time a charm becuase I qualified for Ironman World Championships then! Iโ€™m so excited to compete in October in Kona! ๐ŸŒบ

My Trainingsparkle book is the build up to Ironman Arizona, where I qualified, and Iโ€™m so glad I have this look back on my journey!

These sports have brought my so much joy and so much heartbreak but wouldnโ€™t ask for it any other way! Iโ€™m currently working towards Ironman World Championships and qualifying for my professional triathlon license!

๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’› Boston Marathon Story๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

Iโ€™m Mike, 38, and I ran the Boston Marathon in 2024 and 2025. This was my 6th World Major in 2024, getting me my first Six Star Medal from Abbott ๐Ÿ…

The days before the race, I experienced Boston by exploring the City, which turns the entire area around the marathon finish line into its own small town just for runners. Itโ€™s unlike any other World Marathon Major.

Pop up shops appear all along Newbury Street and the entire weekend is jam packed with events and shake out runs from various running companies.

My most memorable moment during the race was crossing the finish line and realizing that Iโ€™d just completed my Six Star Journey.

I began running in 2018 with just the goal of running 20 minutes without stopping. To finish all six of these major marathons around the world was something I never dreamed out. Turning left onto Boylston is such an indescribable feeling. This was followed by an over 40 minute improvement in 2025 to a 3:15 finish, which qualified me for this yearโ€™s race.

The course is unlike any other marathon, and it was incredible to go through each neighborhood of Boston to see the course change from small towns to the streets and skyscrapers of Boston itself. I struggled most at the Newton Hills in 2025 due to the heat and overall difficulty at this part of the race. In 2024 I walked these hills, but made it a goal to run them in 2025 and was happy to accomplish this.

๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท Medal Monday ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ…

As tradition goes, itโ€™s Medal Monday.

Breaking my personal record (Chicago, 3:53) on a course with hilly sections was completely unexpected. My new personal best of 3:49:01 feels surreal โ€” something I always dreamed of, but never quite believed would become reality.

The weather was fantastic, and it gave me the confidence to keep pushing forward.

But something felt different this time. I received so many messages and words of encouragement that truly helped me dig deeper. I wasnโ€™t alone out there, I saw others chasing their own stories, too.

On Traininsparkle, I saw 45 athletes complete races. Forty-five, all on a single Sunday! From Enschede to Istria, Hannover to Paris, Rotterdam to Milan everyone wrote a new page in their own book.

Be proud of what you achieved. And please, share your medals and tag us.
