🏁 The Yamaha R7 European Cup SuperFinale at Circuit Paul Ricard! 🇫🇷

We’ve been back home in Belgium for a few days now — getting used to the cooler weather again ❄️

I qualified 21st and had great starts in both races, entering Turn 1 in 15th each time 💪
Unfortunately, I was missing some top speed, which made it tough to hold position on those long straights. My braking was strong and helped me stay close through the corners, but in the end, it wasn’t quite enough to fight for a higher spot. I finished 20th in both races.

Still, it was an amazing experience on an iconic circuit. I’ve rebuilt some confidence and I’m really looking forward to my final race day of the season in Assen on October 4th! 🏁🔥

Tough day at Bol d'Or PAGE Officielle.
We’re still battling some suspension issues, which kept us from putting in a strong lap time during qualifying.
We'll be starting from P21 tomorrow — not ideal, but we're ready to push hard and fight our way into the points. 💪🔥

About Last Weekend @ Circuit Carole with the 🏁

We gave it everything out there, but ran into some tough luck with the front suspension. Steering into and out of corners felt like a battle — the bike just wasn’t responding the way I needed it to, and I never found a solid rhythm.

📊 Results Recap:
• Q1: P7 (crashed out after 3 laps)
• Q2: P5
• Race 1: P5
• Race 2: P6
Am I disappointed? Not at all. I know I pushed to the limit and showed I’ve got the speed. 👊

Next stop: Yamaha R7 European SuperFinale @ Bol d’Or – September 17–20. Can’t wait for what’s ahead! 🔥

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to participate in the during the IDM event in Assen.
Always up for a new experience, I didn't hesitate for a moment to try out a completely new motorcycle. For the first time, I had the chance to race with a four-cylinder engine.
I had to adapt to the bike very quickly, as we only had two free practice sessions, followed by two qualifying sessions and two races.
Results:
FP1: P11
FP2: retired before I could set a lap time due to technical problems
Q1: P10
Q2: P8
With only 24 laps of experience on this bike, I managed to secure P8 on the starting grid.
Both races were quite exciting. It had been a long time since I had to work so hard to ride fast.
In race 1, we fought with three riders for P7. I had to acknowledge my superior in another guest rider and crossed the finish line in 8th place.
Race 2 gave me a better start and I found a good position at the front of the field. Unfortunately, it started to drizzle and I had a few “moments” with the front tire, so I decided to make sure I could return the bike to Kawasaki as I had received it. I finished in eighth place again.
It was great to catch up with some of the riders we met last year. The atmosphere in the Kawasaki Cup is very relaxed, and I had a lot of fun during the weekend!

My next race is in Carole with the R7 in 2 weeks. Looking forward to it!

Recap of last weekend’s races in Assen! 🏁

Friday was a mix of conditions. Free practice was wet, Q1 saw a fast-drying track, and Q2 was wet again. I made an incorrect tyre choice in Q1 and finished P4.
Post-qualifications, the test bench revealed my bike urgently needs an overhaul — I'm missing quite a bit of HP compared to the others in the cup. That’s our focus this week!

Race day Saturday:
Race 1: Wet conditions. Felt really comfortable on the bike and finished on the podium in P3.
Race 2: Dry weather. I had a rough start as my bike wasn’t in gear when the lights went out, but I managed to react quickly, shift, and launch forward. I passed a few riders before the first corner and started chasing for a better position. Sadly, those in front pulled away, and I battled back to finish P4. In the last corner, I had to brake for some slower riders, losing that spot — part of racing!
Apologies to all those behind me on the starting grid. Some extra adrenaline added to your start! 👹🚀📈

Overall, not a bad weekend considering I’ve now confirmed what I’d been feeling for the last 3 race weekends: my bike is lacking power and speed. We have some work to do, but we’ll come back stronger at Carole on August 30-31! 💪🏍️

A review of last Saturday's race day.

The planned race weekend was reduced to 1 day, meaning 2 qualifications and 2 races in 1 day.

Results:
Qualif. 1: p3
Qualif. 2: did not participate due to wet conditions and dry forecast for the races

Race 1: p5
Race 2: p5 p5 after fierce battles for the podium to the finish.

Review of the first weekend of the R7 Cup Benelux.
After not racing for several months, we travelled to Croix-en-Ternois on Friday for a happy reunion with the R7 Cup Benelux team, pilots from last year, some former competitors from the Northern Talent Cup and some fast guys making the switch from R3 to R7.
First observation: the level has really gone up, with lap times over a second faster than last year in less than ideal conditions. This bodes well for the rest of the season.
Unfortunately I didn't get a strong lap time in either qualifying session, my individual sector times were very strong but a full fast lap wasn't possible. I finished 6th on the grid with a lap time half a second slower than the pole position.
On Sunday the weather conditions were very different to Saturday and the track was very slippery in places. So slippery that on the warm-up lap I had a solid highside and was thrown off my bike. Luckily without too much damage, a bit of bike damage, a dent in my ego and a sore hip. Nothing that stopped me from starting the race.
I got a lightning start and was in 2nd position in turn 1. Unfortunately the race was flagged off early and I lost that position by a few thousandths of a second, so I finished 3rd.
The second race would be decided by a gamble on tyre choice. Rain was still forecast, so I decided to start on wet tyres. Unfortunately it was the wrong choice. The guys on slicks were obviously impossible to keep up with, but I still managed to set lap times that were only a second slower than theirs. I finished 4th.
Now I have to let my hip heal and prepare for the next race weekend at Mettet on the 24th and 25th of May.

Thank you K.A.M.V. Mortsel for the tribute last night.
I am sorry that I was not present in person at the start of the celebatory year for our club’s 100th anniversary.
Thank you for your years of dedication to our beloved motorsport. May 2025 be a festive milestone in the rich history of K.A.M.V Mortsel!
