For UAE Team Emirates pro cyclist competing at the highest level used to mean spending months away from home on altitude training camps. Necessary for performance, but a heavy burden on family life and mental well-being.

We are incredibly proud to have built a professional altitude room right inside Jay’s master bedroom. Equipped with our advanced 3-step air purification system, he can now simulate high-altitude training from the comfort of his own home.

The result? The perfect balance. Jay gets the maximum physical benefits of altitude training while staying right where it matters most, with his wife, his son, and their second baby on the way.

No more living out of a suitcase. Just world-class preparation, mental stability, and quality family time.
Good luck and success Jay Vine!

Wat een mooie editie van Duathletics 2026! 💪🎗️

How do you deal with injuries, abrasions & recovery after a fall?

It has probably happened to you before as a top athlete… one moment of inattention during training or competition and you’re out. Days, sometimes weeks.

As an athlete, an injury is often more than just physical damage. It means standstill, frustration, and having to rebuild again. Whether it’s abrasions after a fall, bruises, ligament injuries, or even fractures, the recovery process can be long and unpredictable.
What many people don’t realize is that recovery strongly depends on oxygen. Damaged tissue needs extra oxygen to reduce inflammation, kick-start wound healing, and create new cells. But with injuries, blood circulation is often limited, which slows down recovery.

What can help you with this?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can support this. This is a treatment where you sit in a high-pressure chamber and breathe in nearly 100% pure oxygen. Under increased pressure, more oxygen dissolves in the blood and is transported more quickly to hard-to-reach, injured areas. This helps with the recovery of tissues, bruises, or bone injuries and promotes better wound healing.

You don’t always have control over an injury, but you do have control over how you support your body in recovery.

Why do elite athletes sleep at altitude, but train at sea level?

This training method is called "live high, train low", and it is one of the most commonly used strategies in endurance sports.

How does it work?

By staying at altitude in the mountains or in a simulated environment such as an altitude tent or altitude room, your body takes in less oxygen. In response, your body produces EPO, the hormone that stimulates the production of new, young red blood cells. This results in better and more efficient oxygen transport to your muscles and your metabolism.

However, training at altitude is often less intense. That’s why athletes train at lower altitudes, where they can train more intensely. So you combine the best of both worlds: on the one hand, the physiological adaptation to altitude, and on the other hand, the quality of high-intensity training at sea level. It works especially well for endurance athletes, but it requires planning, time, and consistency.

It is important to know that the effect of this approach does not last indefinitely. The increase in red blood cells and the improved oxygen transport are temporary and gradually decrease once you spend longer periods back at sea level. That’s why elite athletes often plan their altitude training camps strategically in the 4 to 5 weeks before an important competition, so they can peak at exactly the right moment. In addition, not everyone responds the same way to altitude training. Some athletes need a bit more time to adapt, while others experience benefits more quickly. Individual tailoring and proper monitoring are therefore essential.

Finally, training smart is not just about training harder, but also about using your environment or tools more intelligently.

What if you suffer from muscle soreness?

You know the feeling as an athlete… the day after a workout you feel stiff, sore, and even climbing stairs feels like a challenge. Muscle soreness may seem harmless, but what you’re actually feeling are tiny tears in your muscle fibers.

That’s a normal result of training and competition. You actually need this to get stronger. But when you train intensively and regularly, that damage can accumulate. Then you get muscle soreness that doesn’t go away, you have less strength, and the risk of injury increases. Your body simply doesn’t get the chance to fully recover.

How do you deal with this?

What you need to know is that recovery is an active process.
Your body has to repair damaged muscle fibers, reduce inflammation, and build new cells. Oxygen plays a crucial role in this. With too little oxygen, your recovery process slows down, inflammation lingers longer, and you don’t feel fit.

With increased oxygen supply, such as during hyperbaric oxygen therapy, your body gets extra support in reducing inflammatory responses. It can remove waste products more efficiently and speed up injury recovery, allowing your muscles to be ready sooner for the next effort.

Muscle soreness means you’ve trained, but how quickly you recover, and which tools can help you, determine how you make progress.

Do you as an athlete sometimes get stuck at the same level, no matter how hard you train?

You’re not alone. Like many athletes, you hit a plateau. You train consistently, you eat well, you get enough rest, but your endurance no longer improves.
Often this isn’t due to your motivation, but to your body having adapted to the stimuli. Or perhaps you notice that you get out of breath more quickly during intense efforts and recover more slowly between intervals. This often points to a limitation in oxygen uptake and transport. Your body uses more energy than necessary for the same effort.
As a result, you fatigue faster, build up more lactic acid, and achieve less efficiency.

How can you prevent that?

This is where low-oxygen therapy comes into play.
By temporarily working with less oxygen, you force your body to become more efficient by producing more red blood cells, improving oxygen distribution, and strengthening your aerobic system. Elite athletes use altitude training for this purpose. It’s an additional stimulus that you need to apply wisely, alongside your existing training schedule.

Sometimes progress isn’t about doing more, but about stimulating your body differently.
