Recap of the 200k non-stop SUP 11-City Tour.
After three times in the 5-day edition – and winning my age group in 2022 – I thought I had closed that chapter. But my buddy Mark kept saying: “The only mythical version is non-stop, just like the skaters back in the day.”
WELL… WE DID IT.
It was magical. It was hell. It was brutally HARD. Saturday 8 a.m. I started steady and quickly took the lead. Not my best day, but not a bad one either. Through the night things went fine, until around 1 a.m. my right leg started acting up. At first I thought it was lactic acid, but it turned out to be thrombosis. I could no longer get off the board by myself, ended up peeing in my pants, and needed help every time to get back on.
The last hours were purely mental. Push through or give up. 30 hours straight.
The biggest victory? Choosing to give up a higher podium spot just to make sure I’d finish and taking 3rd place. Sometimes accepting a loss is the greatest win.

And to the home front for letting me train so much and all the support , and the physios for patching up this aging body every week 😎

Jochum Steur – The Conqueror of the Waters

From the northern lands, where the polders breathe and the canals whisper, comes a man with royal blood and an iron will: Jochum Steur, direct descendant of William of Orange. No throne, no crown — but water is his kingdom, and he rules it with absolute power.

The waters around Haarlem know his name. They part when his paddle strikes. Waves fall silent, headwinds retreat. He is the uncrowned king of the canals, the conqueror of every bend, every rapid stretch.

Even Reynard the Fox, master of cunning and survival, hides deep in his den when word spreads: Jochum is coming. For against this warrior, no trick, no flight, no hope will do. Where Jochum appears, only determination reigns.

On April 13th, he descends upon the south. The Moervaart, usually calm and still, trembles in anticipation. No waterway is safe, no rival at ease. For Jochum does not fight for applause. He fights for glory. For legacy. For his name to be written upon the water.

Who’s coming?!?
In the quiet town of Stekene, where the waters of the canal usually flow gently, lives a man who turns an ordinary paddle into an epic battle against the elements and supcolleagues : Gunther De Bin. Organizer of the Reynaert SUP Marathon and a feared paddler with an impressive track record. In 2022, he conquered the SUP11City Tour in his age group — 220 kilometers of pure willpower. In 2024, he ruled the Scottish lochs during the Great Glen Challenge.
But his true magic reveals itself at home, on the Moervaart. There, the water crashes so violently beneath his paddle that locals fear the canal might run dry. His blade cuts through the water like a sword — fierce and precise.
Yet one question remains: who is Gunther without his brothers in crime? As part of a legendary SUP triplet, he is bound to the raw power of Pascal Bleys and the cold precision of Bart Jansegers. Is Gunther still the legend without them… or merely one-third of a myth?
