GPTCA Belgium is an national organization dedicated to improving the performance of tennis coaches

The GPTCA Belgium offers educational opportunities in Belgium to enhance the knowledge of tennis coaches. All the courses offered by the GPTCA Belgium are certified by the ATP World Tour. There are three levels of coaching proficiency – A-level, B-level and C-level. Note that the level A is attained solely on the basis of achievements. Levels B and C certification is usually gained through success

ful completion of our courses. In some cases, however, they can also be granted on the basis of a proven track in developing tennis players.

Editor-in-Chief Marcin Matysik caught up with Robert Davis, Global Professional Tennis Coach Association (GPTCA) A* Level Coach and national president of Singapore to talk about his new assignment as Technical Director of Tennis Operations for Sport Singapore.

ELITE: How is it going from ATP World Tour coach to Technical Director? RD: When you are a coach on the ATP Tour or the Challenger Tour, you are a bit like the Commander-In-Chief. You only need to communicate with the player. On most issues you get your way. Roger Rasheed, Toni Nadal, Jose Perlas, Bob Brett, and Magnus Norman all come to mind. Each of those coaches have different styles and ways of communicating but there is no doubt who is in charge. Another aspect that is quite different is on the Tour you spend a lot of time together off the court with the player. There is no ‘On and Off’ switch between coach and player and you tend to share a lot and very few secrets. For the tour coach and player tennis is not so much a job, it is our life.
