Beetje uitleg over wat er gebeurt op de US Open en
Met USBC die de urethaan ballen test op hun hardheid

I've had a few people ask me about the urethane hardness testing at the US Open. So here's my best try at explaining it.
Bowling balls have to be above a 72 hardness when they are made - and above 68 in field testing. They use a tool called a durometer to test it.
The softer the ball the more they hook basically.

USBC has been doing research on urethane balls for a while and this was their next step in the research. So far their research shows urethane balls soften with use and when they get oil on them.
So they tested about 300 urethane balls this week. As far as I know 2 balls came out just below the 68 limit and have been removed from future competition. The players have no chance of knowing that the balls were or had gotten too soft - so no fault of theirs.

Is the urethane balls being softer an advantage? Maybe.
Is there a difference between a legal ball testing 68,1 and an illegal ball testing 67,8? Probably not.
Again not the players fault - just an unfortunate situation, but good the USBC is testing it and researching how to make the playing field more fair.

As of right now this does not affect any other than the balls that tested below the limit this week. So if you have a urethane ball at home it is still good for use.
USBC might make more tests going forward and maybe there will be some changes as a result of this, but as of right now - if your ball is on the USBC Approved Ball list (and is legal on all other rules) it is legal to use.
