Playing: a basic human right
At R2S we believe that every child and youth has the right to score not only on the pitch (right to play) but also in life (the right to opportunities and a better life). Our goal is to make these basic rights achievable to those who cannot achieve them on their own due to their challenging life’s contexts.
We work for and with at-risk children and youths in the Brugsepoort (Meibloemsite) neighbourhood in the city of Gent, Belgium.
Our society has never been so filled with opportunities. To work, play, travel, education, ... Yet a large segment of the society does not have access to these opportunities. People living in poverty, low-income families, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, refugees, ... have little to no access to sports participation.
The advantages of sports participation have long been proven. Not only are there social benefits, but doing sport is also good for our health and well being. It is thus of great importance to make sports accessible for all in our society.
