Hands-on: Gundam Rogue Orbit – Gamescom 2026

I went for the sword. There were three Gundams waiting for me at Gamescom, one with a sword, another with a lance and a third using a whip, and with absolutely no previous Gundam game experience to guide that decision, the sword seemed like a good place to start. A few minutes later I was boosting across the battlefield, missiles were flying everywhere and I was hammering away at robots considerably bigger than the enemies I had started with....

Hands-on: Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World – Gamescom 2026

There’s something wonderfully Dragon Quest about meeting a king and almost immediately being sent out into the world to solve problems for him. That was more or less how my time with Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World started at Gamescom, where I played around 45 minutes of the PS5 version as Nera. I met the king, got my first objectives, explored the world and eventually fought some bosses....

Review: Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 - Sadly this dynasty is the not the only thing falling

There is something slightly strange about reviewing a game we already reviewed. I usually don’t look at our old reviews before jotting down my own thoughts, but I did this time. Why? I’ll get to th…

Review: SPRAWL Zero - A modern throwback to Quake and Painkiller

There was a time when shooters were perfectly happy to hand you a gun, point you towards a corridor and let you get on with it. No sprawling skill trees, no crafting materials, no battle pass waiti…

Review: Onimusha: Way of the Sword

It’s been twenty years since we got a completely new Onimusha game, and action-adventure games have changed quite a bit during that time. Bigger worlds, more systems, more things to collect and usually a map filled with icons telling you exactly where all of it is. Onimusha: Way of the Sword could have followed that same direction for its return. Instead, Capcom has made the kind of action-adventure I used to play all the time....

Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters certainly looks and feels the part, but is there enough actual football underneath all those spectacular super moves and anime cutscenes? Find out in our full review!

After the 2026 FIFA World Cup concluded, there was a brief moment when I suffered from a bit of football fatigue. But the beautiful game being what it is, I was already glad to see my domestic leag…

Indie Corner: Dodo Duckie - Quack between dimensions

There are games that land in our inbox and make me wonder why nobody thought of their central mechanic before. Sadly, there are others that answer that question themselves a few hours later. Dodo D…

Hands-on: Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 – Gamescom 2026

Ten years is a long time between sequels, but apparently not long enough for me to forget how Dragon Ball Xenoverse works. Within minutes of starting Xenoverse 3 at Gamescom, I was flying around an icy battlefield, firing Ki attacks at Frieza Force soldiers and trying to keep track of enemies moving at ridiculous speeds around me. Then Broly showed up and things became a little more complicated....

Hands-on: Hands-on: Final Fantasy Resonance – Gamescom 2026

I’ve played a lot of Final Fantasy games over the years, but Final Fantasy Resonance immediately looks different. We’ve seen Square Enix use HD-2D for games like Octopath Traveler and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, but this is the first time Final Fantasy gets that treatment. After playing part of the game during Gamescom, I’m already wondering why it took them this long....

Hands-on: Turok: Origins – Gamescom 2026

I have a lot of good memories of Turok. I played the Nintendo 64 games when I was younger, continued with the series on GameCube and apparently never really grew out of the idea that shooting dinosaurs with ridiculous weapons is awesome. So yes, I was looking forward to playing Turok: Origins at Gamescom....
