Spent the final days in New Zealand in a Christchurch hostel. The city is still recovering from the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes. And yet, museums are free, the city is full of building sites and high hopes, tourists and backpackers are everywhere enjoying the new energy. According to information panels it might take a generation for the city to get back up on its feet.

Ten days in Te Anau, my last host. Chopped wood, took care of three teenage boys high on hormones, and an airbnb while the hosts were away. Most of all - went to visit the Milford Sound and took a cruise through the beautiful UNESCO heritage and walked the first day of the famous Kepler Track

This is my 😁😁😁. I am back in Europe, 377 days after I have left. Not home yet, but man, the air smells so fresh here. It's freezing in but I'm enjoying it. I've had a smile on my face ever since I passed the open doors of the plane and was hit by the ice-cold air. I am walking towards my airbnb with my 16kg on my back, and evening though I'm exhausted after almost 36 hours of travel my cheeks are locked in a wide grin. Can't wait to hold my friends in my arms again and get a good IRL bear hug!

I seem to be unable to find the right words to express my feelings as I am looking at this city still showing so clearly its scars from the heavy 2011 . Tomorrow is the sixth anniversary of the event. Each day here, a new stretch of street is being paved, a new park opens, a new floor of a hopefully earthquake resistant building is used, the temporary cathedral built of cardboard welcomes visitors.
