My first linear mirror!

Was out walking, and came across this tiny, weedy pond. Saw the fish feeding in the shallows, so naturally had to sprint back to the car and get my rod. I only had my ultralight spinning rod with me, but ya have to make do. So a bit of bread on a size 8, and I was away.

Absolutely stoked with this surprise catch!

Day session on a new venue. Always great when a new spot and targeted pre-baiting pays off!

Only the one fish today, just shy of the 20lb mark. But any carp on the bank, and just being by the water makes the day worth it!

✅ Bucket List fish on the bank!

Catching a classic Belgian Common from the 7-8 section of the Legendary Kempisch (Bocholt-Herentals) Canal is a lifetime goal of most carp anglers worldwide.

As one of the rare carp anglers in New Zealand, literally on the other side of the world, wading through hundreds of 5lb koi, Kempisch Commons are distant dream mostly relegated to drooling over them on YouTube and Instagram.

Now, I'm lucky enough to live just 45 minutes from this hallowed section of canal!

Last week, my Kempisch dream came true with this pristine 20+! Not the biggest in the canal by any stretch, but those are still to come. For now, I'm just blessed to be among the lucky who have one of these legendary fish in their portfolio!

Bring on the monsters!

Finally got around to fishing the holy grail of canal carp fishing - the legendary Kempisch!

Finally landed my first Belgian carp! And what a way to do it! With a 600+ year old castle as my backdrop, and landing both my first common and first mirror within an hour of each other!

coming through with the absolute magic banana boilies which got these fish.
