“A lot of what happens in the next few years will depend on people in this room, working together, building the right collaborations, working with the government, the state lawmakers and investors,” declared Ben Backwell as he opened GWEC’s APAC Wind Energy Summit 2026 in Hanoi, Vietnam alongside H.E. Vice Minister Nguyen Hoang Long, Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The opening sessions kicked off events in Hanoi, including a trade show with dozens of exhibitors from across the global industry, including our Event Ambassadors Vestas, PTSC, Suzlon Group and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, who welcomed Vice Minister Long during a tour of the show floor.

We were also delighted to welcome Gauri Singh, Deputy Director-General, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), who told delegates during the opening, “it’s really about how wind power deployment can actually be the seed to create the interconnected markets and the electricity markets that the regions really would benefit from,” as well as reflecting on the enormous economic and energy security benefits for Vietnam and the APAC region of embracing electrification and renewable energy.

GWEC’s APAC Summit continues for two days and brings together industry, government and institutions from across the world to accelerate the deployment of wind energy. Keep your eye on GWEC’s social channels for more coverage of the event.

'What we are setting up is a production line of projects. It's not a project organisation where there's one project after another. No, this project organisation is actually a production organisation. It will produce one wind farm after another. This is really what we are working on,' explains Patrick Lammers, CEO of Skyborn Renewables.

🎧 In the latest episode of GWEC's Offshore Wind Energy Podcast, Stewart Mullin, Chief Industry Officer at GWEC caught up with Patrick Lammers at the recent WindEurope event in Madrid. The discussed Skyborne's approach to building big infrastructure projects that deliver repeatable success.

Patrick shared how he is looking at standardisation and supply chain efficiencies to make offshore wind more reliable, affordable and bankable than
ever before.

Most offshore wind developers talk about scaling projects, but Patrick discusses Skyborne's approach: building standardised infrastructure that ensures predictable, repeatable success. In a market obsessed with massive, unpredictable projects, Patrick shares how standardisation and a focus on supply chain efficiency make offshore wind more reliable, affordable, and bankable than ever before.

5️⃣ Five wind turbine manufacturers have now each installed more than 100 GW of wind energy — a landmark moment for the global wind industry.

Vestas became the first to surpass 200 GW in cumulative installations in 2025, while Envision Energy is the latest to join the 100+ GW club.

Goldwind (163 GW), Siemens Gamesa (148 GW), and GE Vernova (125 GW) round out a cohort that collectively represents the industrial backbone of the global energy transition.

"We now have five companies that have each installed more than 100 GW,' said GWEC CEO Ben Backwell, "which is enough electricity to power many of the world's largest economies. But this is only just the beginning."

GWEC's Supply Side Data Report shows a record 178 GW of wind turbine capacity was mechanically installed in 2025, that is a 40% increase on the previous year, and means 28,395 turbines from 23 manufacturers installed across the world.

Wind now meets 9.5% of global electricity demand. With encouraging order books already building for 2026, the trajectory is clear. The priority now is ensuring permitting, grid investment, and policy pipelines keep pace with an industry that is demonstrably ready to scale.

🎙️🔴 New Podcast Episode recorded live in Madrid!

GWEC's Chief Research Officer Feng Zhao sits down with Ling Wei and Jason Yan from Sungrow to unpack China's rapid development of wind energy.

They discuss:
→ The shift from LCOE to LCOV as the dominant policy metric
→ The '136 regulation' and how it's reshaping project economics and consolidating the supplier landscape
→ Turbine pricing trends and the conditions for Chinese OEMs
→ AI's role in manufacturing, O&M, and grid integration
→ SunGrow's international expansion strategy as a case study in how Chinese companies are scaling globally

If you work in offshore wind, project finance, or energy policy, particularly across Asia-Pacific, the regulatory signals coming out of Beijing are directly relevant to how markets will develop over the next decade.
