Germany became the first men’s team to win back-to-back FIH Hockey World Cup titles on two separate occasions by successfully defending their crown with a 1-0 victory over Spain in the final in Wavre on today.

Michel Struthoff’s 44th minute goal was the defining moment, a lovely piece of opportunism as he picked up the ball on the left baseline, rounded the goalkeeper and slipped into the net.

The Netherlands and Argentina will meet in the FIH Hockey World Cup final on Saturday after 1-0 semi-final victories on Thursday.

The clash is a rematch four years in the making after the two sides met in the last World Cup final in 2022, where the Dutch prevailed.

EuroHockey’s Development of National Coaching Systems (DNCS) programme continued its work across Europe with coach educator Tomislav Jamicic partnering with the Georgian Hockey Federation to help strengthen the country’s coach education system and build long-term capacity from within this summer.

The DNCS programme provides member nations with financial support and expert guidance to develop coaching structures that align with both the European Qualifications Framework and FIH Academy standards.

In Georgia, the focus was not simply on delivering a coaching course but on creating the foundations for a sustainable system that can educate and support future generations of coaches.
