🌍 HOW WILL THE U-FLI OPEN FLYBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS WORK?
📍 Lommel, Belgium
📅 May 14–16, 2027
WHO CAN COMPETE?
This is an inclusive international event, conducted under U-FLI rules and measuring standards. Teams from every flyball organization—including NAFA, BFA, UKFL and others—are welcome to join us!
All teams must register with U-FLI to be eligible to compete.
Here’s how teams will progress through the championship weekend:
FRIDAY — SINGLES, PAIRS & TEST FLIGHT
Friday features the Singles Championship, Pairs Championship and Test Flight.
Singles and Pairs entries will compete in five-entry round-robin groups. Each race will use a 4-of-4 heat format, with the results determining the final standings.
What is Test Flight?
Test Flight provides teams with dedicated ring time to practise and become acquainted with the venue, racing lanes and overall event environment before the Open World team competition begins on Saturday.
SATURDAY — TIME TRIAL & QUALIFYING
The Open World team competition begins with five-team round-robin groups. Each team will race every other team in its group, giving every team a minimum of four races.
Saturday races will use the 4-of-4 heat format.
A team’s fastest qualifying time of the day—either a clean time or a qualifying breakout time—will determine its seed for Sunday.
Teams without a qualifying time, or teams that forfeit a race, will not advance.
SUNDAY — CHAMPIONSHIP RACING
All qualifying teams will be re-seeded according to their fastest Saturday time.
Using Championship 1 as an example, the ten fastest teams will be divided into two balanced groups:
🔴 Group A: Seeds 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9
🔵 Group B: Seeds 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10
Each group will compete in its own five-team round robin using a best 3-of-5 heat format.
🏁 Teams will receive one point for every race won.
🏁 The total points earned during the round robin will determine each team’s position within its group.
The final Group A and Group B standings will then determine the placement races:
🥇 1st in Group A vs. 1st in Group B — Gold & Silver
🥉 2nd in Group A vs. 2nd in Group B — Bronze & 4th
🏁 3rd in Group A vs. 3rd in Group B — 5th & 6th
🏁 4th in Group A vs. 4th in Group B — 7th & 8th
🏁 5th in Group A vs. 5th in Group B — 9th & 10th
Every race matters. Every clean time counts. And every qualifying team races for its final World Championship placement.
