(永島慎二, 1937–2005)
War orphan - Street fighter – Dreamer - - Assistant to

From sleeping in a stable and selling tofu, to becoming one of the most influential voices of adult manga.
In the late 1950s, early 1960’s, he drew Nippon G-men, a hard-boiled 'noir' crime
Fast, tense, and already charged with human drama.
G-Men belongs to Nagashima’s early period, when crime and detective stories were popular in postwar Japan. The title refers to “Government Men,” or federal agents, a term imported from American crime fiction and cinema.
G-Men was entertainment: action-driven, tense, and hard-boiled storytelling.
However, even at this stage, you can already sense Nagashima’s interest in moral conflict and human weakness, themes that would later define The Cruel Story of a Manga Artist and his work for Garo
Raw – Personal – Honest
Shinji Nagashima turned real life into manga and left a mark that still remains!
